Thanks to Geezer, shin2, and a couple of friends on my LJ, I went ahead and made a copy of Utahime for the person. I hope she likes it. :) I think I'll start watching that after I'm done with the dramas I'm watching now.

A proper drink to celebrate any ASBO.

I have to agree with Tu_triky on the "Battle Royal" movies.
There's nothing scary about them at all. Except maybe for the level of stupidity.

Okay, here's the movie. We'll put a bunch of good looking young things on an Island and have them kill each other. Why? Who cares. Make up any bogus premise you like. It doesn't have to make a lick of sense. The bottom line is... people will pay to see these kids stabbing, shooting, hanging, and poisoning each other for 90 minutes. Okay... A friend of mine wanted to know what I'd recommend for comedies similar to My Boss & My Hero or Dragon Zakura. I couldn't think of anything, so I wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions.

Yeah, I didn't see the big deal....I couldn't get past the first 20 minutes or so of the first film.....and I was drinking a beer, too.
Hm...interesting. Battle Royale is still one of my favorite books...and I like the first movie (even if it is a bit less than some years ago; and I must say the story made more sense in the book, because for the movie the background story was changed rather drastically). But the second movie...*shudders* There were some interesting characters and some good acting, but the story :banghead:
But I never watched them as "horror movies" so...
I will check out Kaidan Hyaku Shosetsu....it sounds interesting.

Oh my goodness, you lot are doing a good job of putting me off the idea of watching Battle Royale.

Sorry! I must say that lots of people enjoyed the films...It's not that I don't like far out, or kooky plots, but for me this somehow didn't work...but it did put Chiaki Kuriyama and Kou Shibasaki on the map.

Heh. Well, I did enjoy some of the manga volumes, so maybe there's hope for me yet. :fingerscrossed:

ItLs really overrated Keps-chan. Like daiango, I read the book, about four, five years ago and I enjoyed it a lot. It gives you a proper context and describes the rationales of the protagonists. I started the movie 5 month ago and I never finished it.
Hmmm, was going to watch that at some stage.
Esther, did you have the book in English?

Oh. Eek. I read about 3 or 4 volumes of the manga, before deciding the relentless bleakness was too much to continue. The novel seems quite hard to track down.
I though the story was an interesting one though, so I thought I might enjoy the films.

Yes, I saw it was her birthday in the Shomuni thread.
I'm watching Nodame Cantabile at the moment, but after that, I was considering Shomuni series 2. Yeah! :victory:
I'm off to bed now. Good night, Jdrama enthusiasts!
