Rika comes off a bit pompous in general it seems to me.
I don't remember seeing her where I DIDN'T think to myself "man, she's really full of herself."
Some people just come off like that sometimes... she may be a total sweetheart in reality.
But there is obviously SOMETHING that people don't like about her. ;)
Yeah I agree, first few times I seen her she was really annoying and kinda irratated me. I think its all the overly fake cute act she puts on all the time.
However, I have since seen many behind the scenes type video and she is pretty sweet girl thats just trying really hard. She's also very professional in everything she does and she always comes prepared to events and shows.
A good example was during the 2003 shuffle groups appearance on Hey!x3 the girls had to read from these cards but they had pretty hard kanji on them and none of the other speakers could get all their lines correctly. Even Kaori who is their leader and older than Rika stuffed her lines up frequently. When it was Rika's turn she got through her flawlessly and even the host was surprised and ask how come she's so good at it and she told him she did a kanji check before comming onto the show so as not to stuff up. :applaud:
Also, her overly cheerful cute act sometimes give off this bimbo impression but in many instances I found her quite level headed even more so than most of the other girls. During one show they did a prank on the girls by turning off all the lights in the house they were in. Of course they all freaked, the host told them they had to collect certain stuff from the house. Rika was the only one to have enough sense to grab the garbage can to put all these stuff in while the other girls were blindingly groping around in the dark (she also managed to get all the stuff while the others didn't even get one proving her memory was much better, remember all of this was in the dark).
The 2003 top tax returns are usually made public and out of all of Hello! Project Rika was the top tax payer meaning she got paid the most out of all the girls in Hello! Project. She beat Aya and Maki who are the 2 top H!P soloist and beat out all the other MM girls. This at least demand a bit of respect.
Another example of her professionalism was during the 2004 new year Unnan special. They had a crying competition to see how long it takes the girls to produce tears. All the girls had something to help them such as photos to remind them of sad times, mini disc players to play sad song etc. Rika had nothing. When it started Rika stared into space for 15 seconds and the tears came. Only a couple of the other girls could produce tears and it took them several minutes while the rest couldn't even do it.
Finally, she is quite a decent actress. I was impressed with her performance in The Last Present and she is currently starring in yet another drama this year.
So yeah Rika has moved from the 2nd bottom of my list to near the top over the past year. ;)
