Moon Child Synopsis:
A story about friendship, betrayal, and redemption. It focuses on a group of orphans who've grown up together in the fictional city of Mallepa, an industrial inner-city wasteland made up of immigrants and the conflicts that arise from their co-habitation. The film focuses on the characters of Sho (Gackt) and Kei (Hyde). Even from when Sho was a child, he was pulling tricks on the local gangsters to survive, with his brother Shinji and his friend Toshi. One day Sho comes across the ailing vampire Kei. Sho takes Kei back to where he and his friends are hiding, and when a gangster comes to take back that which they stole, Kei kills the man, thusly saving Sho. The two of them become friends, each finding something they needed in the other. Flash forward many years later, and Sho is now a young adult while Kei hasn't aged a day. They are still pulling tricks on the local gangsters, but they make new friends and for a short time they are happy. Sho and Kei's friendship is tested, however, when those same gangsters decided to take their revenge...
The movie actually jumps through over 40 years. It's pretty good. Lots of action and cool stunts at the begiining. Hyde does quite a bit of wire work, which is fun to see! There's also comedy (Gackt was such a dork at first! Hehe.) And later on in the film it calms down and there's quite a bit of drama melancholy. It's a nice piece of storytelling. Some would say that the movie tries to do and say too many things at once... Which it does, but it's an enjoyable film if you don't go in with too many high expectations. Fans of Gackt and Hyde will like it best, of course. Gackt himself apparently participated in writing the film. And yeah, Hyde wasn't sure he'd be good for the part, but eventually Gackt convinced him (obviously!).
The film can be found to download with English subtitles using Bittorrent (A p2p file-sharing program). BUT, it has also been released OFFICIALLY in North America on DVD, which you can buy on Amazon and what not. I actually own the North American DVD. it doesn't have the extras of the Japanese release, though, and they had to change a sing used in the film (Mr. BoJangles) because of liscensing or something. ... Annnnnd some of the translations are questionable. If I ever own a regionless DVD player, I DEFINETLY plan on buying the Japanese DVD as well. Hehe.
Now for your listening pleasure, the Moon Child THEME SONG! A duet by Gackt and Hyde, Orenji no Taiyou! (From Gackt's album, Crescent)

P.S. In case you missed it, I LOVED Moon Child. I've actually watched it about 6 times, now. :yippee: You should see me. I sit there mouthing Gackt's lines (In Japanese) all the time. :victory: So I DEFINTLY recomend it, even if you're NOT a Hyde or Gackt fan. ... It might make you INTO a Hyde and Gackt fan, though.
Another Hyde movie not to be missed: Kagen no Tsuki! The Japanese DVD also has English subtitles.
Heh. Hyde is quite the actor, actually. And he is much loved, it seems, by Yazawa Ai. :victory:
Edit: WOW this ended up being a long post. Hehe... But I can't help it. Moon Child (And talk of Gackt with Hyde together) makes me weak in the knees. Hehehehehe. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Every 19 years, during "Kagen no Tsuki", or Last Quarter of the Moon, a miracle is set to happen and a romance is set to brew. Muzuki (Kuriyama Chiaki) breaks up with her boyfriend Tomoki (Narimiya Hiroki) on her 19th birthday. Muzuki, feeling lonely and having nowhere to go, suddenly hears a familiar guitar melody. She followed the sound to an old house, where she meets Adam (HYDE!!!). They fall in love and vowed to meet a week later. However, on a night of the last quarter of the moon, Muzuki was run over by a car. She awakes to find herself in the old house, but she cannot leave it. She is still alive, lying in a coma, but existing as a ghost in the house...
