Mystic River was almost agonizingly somber. A sad story and a sad movie. I thought it was pretty good, but it's a hard movie to watch again and again, just like Saving Private Ryan, another depressing movie.

Yup, I agree with you. I would not want to watch it over and over again..it's too depressing. However, the actors in Mystic River are bloody good which I think it will be a tight competition between Watanabe and Robbins. Still, I hope Watanabe will win the race (fingers crossed).

You bought Twilight Samurai...wow..I am about to order that online..Pls tell me how it turns out if you've watched it, before I really decide to buy it (I'm currently trying to make a collection of samurai film).

Perhaps I should open a thread about those Samurai and other martial arts movie...has anybody ever make thread about them, if not I shall make it.

Yay~ SO happy that he was at least nominated!! He hasn't had the greatest things happen to him in the past few years, so he definitely deserves for more good stuff to happen to him!

Watanabe Ken plays a cop again in Suna No Utsuwa. I became a fan of his after seeing him in Ikebukuro West Gate Park. Kakkoii yo!! :applaud:

from the previous post by Akakage

Not only for the BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR, The Last Samurai is also nominated for BEST ART DIRECTION, BEST COSTUME DESIGN, and BEST SOUND

Congrats Watanabe san! , After watching the film, I really thought that the title 'Last Samurai' actually refers to Katsumoto and his men.... not Algren.

:applaud: :applaud:

About The Twilight Samurai, it's not a good film, it's.......... a GREAT film !. It deserves all the awards it's nominated upon.

...... and somehow reminds me of Rurouni Kenshin : Meiji Kenkaku Romantan....

Hmm, I don't recall a thread about Samurai/Martial Arts films... You might try searching first, though. :)

Yes, do it. I love films with samurai swords and fighters, like those "tiger and dragon" thing. Next movie I wanna see is "Hero". Does anyone have seen it? Is it good?

I saw Watanabe on the Gokenin Zankuro series for 97. He was great even on TV. I'm sure as heck hoping for him to be the one.

And I do hope Ken Watanabe wins the Oscar for best supporting actor, he did a fine job in The last samurai.....

BTW, I thought that The last samurai was one excellent film and should've been nominated for the best picture award for the Oscars. It's a shame that it didn't get nominated but nothing I can do about that one. I'm not sure if Watanabe will win but let's wait and see.

The best of luck to him. The guy is a very good actor.

To be totally fair, Benicio del Toro already has an Academy Award for Traffic, and I think Djimon Hounsou has been nominated as well... But I agree with you that I'd love to see Watanabe-san win the Oscar... :D

What surprises me is that someone would go the theater and pay to see the movie so many times... Here in the U.S. that total cost would be about $250-$300, based on our ticket prices... :google:

I'd wait until it came out on DVD and buy it for $20 and watch it until I was blue in the face... :hehe:
