Is it me or is Ueto Aya always the 'only good thing' in her shows. She's never been in a truly good show, all the shows are just average. That's what I think.

Hmm, I have to disagree on that one. Abarenbo Mama and Attention Please were all-around great dramas. I liked Hokaben too.

I personally think that Kinpachi Sensei is the best (though I just watch the 6th season only) and her acting there is superb. Attention Please is very good too. Those two dramas are really great in my opinion but I must admit the newer dramas are kinda repeatitive and average dramas but I still enjoying watching them
the writers are the culprit.... with no good script even the brightest star's dramas will screw up :shakehead:

I thought Aya was brilliant in Ri Kouran also. Her singing and acting were superb.

I haven't seen that one too (damn a lot of catching up  ) but I heard her singing there and I was really really impressed... :applaud: :applaud:

Well I gotta say Attention Please is one of my all time favourite dramas, and believe me, I've watched a lot of dramas ...
I quite enjoyed Attacku as well, and while I can understand why it is not to everyone's taste ~ it's target audience is a lot younger than most dramas ~ it still was a very good drama. Ace wo Nerae uses the same formula but probably is not quite as good, though that is my opinion. Kinpachi sensei similarly, different audience in mind, was a reasonable drama, though Aya was outstanding in it.
My little chef is an excellent drama as well, and showed Aya can play a supporting role quite well and does not need to be the lead to show true quality.
The rest I've seen probably fall between the good to average drama (Hokaben, Celeb to binbou and Shimokita), though Aya's always enjoyable to watch :dancing:

Everyone will have different opinions though, and that's ok, this is just mine :hehe:

What makes them great? Don't get my wrong I enjoyed watching them, actually I enjoyed watching Aya. With Abarenbo Mama you have what's a tired story line. The child suddenly appearing or the new/young wife have been used many times. Attention Please started off good but at some point became somewhat repetitive, the SPs were just to make money, they added nothing to the story. Hokaben, well, there's a lawyer show like every season. Like I said, to me the shows are just average. Unless your a fan of Ueto Aya, you'll miss nothing not watching these shows.

Ironically I think it's Aya's popularity that hurts her. What I mean by this is given her popularity Aya probably gets a lot of roles/offers, but I doubt her agency looks for roles with solid story lines or roles that will showcase her ability. Instead, I think they just look at what will give them the most money.

I know what you're getting at. There is tons of repitition in jdrama themes but I really thought AP and AM are a cut above. Aya did a great job of portraying the evolution of her characters; especially in AP. The rest of the casts were memorable and did a very good job too.

In reguards to Aya's popularity hurting her, that was certainly the case in Celeb to Bimbo. It was an ill concieved, big budget drama made only to showcase her and it was total crap. It was really hard for me to finish that drama. I don't think Aya will take on a silly project like that again. Or at least I hope she wont.

LOL, Celeb to Binbo Taro was the first show that came to mind, as I wrote that paragraph.

Just finished Shimokita, her best yet. Some people are saying what else is good besides Aya in her shows, Sasaki Kuranosuke was also in Shimokita, he's really good and just gets better. He was super in M Higeki and the movie Mayima Brothers. :victory:

10 out of 10 doctors recommend Aya for a happy, healthy life.

Gloria Swanson in the role of the film star Norma Desmond was famous for saying, "I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. Deville."
In Aya's case, she is always ready for her close-up.

While on safari in Africa, Aya proved that 'music soothes the savage beast.' She sang Yume no Chikara and the whole Serengeti plain turned into the world's biggest petting zoo for the day.
