Well, it's an interesting show (I don't even know what the hell the name of it is!! :beaten: ) I'd like to see a few more before making a judgement. But with using Japanese subtitles, if they added english subtitles, there would be such a mess, you probably couldn't read either one.

I saw that there were no subtitles and went right back to playing xbox live.

Watched the "new show" (still don't know the name of it) again last night. The real reason I'm posting this is to try and move that damn "Hard Gay" thread back in the dumps where it belongs!!! :say_argh:

The following was lifted from this week's "Channel Surf" column in the Japan Times:

One of Nihon TV's most popular shows of the last decade was "Dotchi no Ryori (Which Dish?)," where a group of celebrities had to choose which of two mouth-watering meals they would prefer to eat.

The show finally left the air last year and has since been replaced by a similarly-themed series, "Nippon Tabi X Tabi Show (Japan Travel X Travel Show)" (Thursday, 9 p.m.). However, instead of choosing which dish they'd like to eat, the celebrities have to choose which tour package they'd like to take.

This week's destination is the city of Kanazawa. The team headed by media celeb Yuji Miyake explores the city by collecting ingredients for the region's most famous cuisine, digging up bamboo shoots and going to markets to buy white shrimp. The other team, headed by comedian Takeshi Fujii, goes in search of the city's natural beauty, including Kenrokuen, one of Japan's most celebrated parks. The celebrities back in the studio have to choose which trip they'd prefer taking themselves.

Looks like one of the co-hosts of Dotch is now part of this new show. I wonder if this new show will eventually make its way to KSCI?

Found out Dotch is now being broadcast in Hawaii on KIKU. I wonder if the episodes are the ones previously shown on KSCI or if there are different ones.

Well the show ended in Japan. Which means all you're watching are old ones. :hehe:

On my post, I said "different", not "new." Dotch was on for around 10 years in Japan; did every single episode that ran in Japan end up being broadcast on KSCI during the two or three years it ran on that channel? My guess is there are a number of episodes which were not shown.

Man I recently watched some old episodes of Dotch that I had archived on DVD....it's amazing when they actually mention restaurants that serve the competing dishes on the show (be it ramen, or curry or yakitori or whatever) in that these restaurants are often so cheap!! Introducing ramen restaurants that serve noodles for 500 yen a bowl or a restaurant that serves a big omuhayashi (omurice with hayashi beef) for 950 yen...I mean these are real bargains for Tokyo considering the hearty portions.

Hmm, I think it's about time I revisited those episodes I've recorded over the past couple of years... :victory:

they surely are fun to watch, especially if you're a fan of japanese food.
the luxurious ingredients they actually use on the show are pretty amazing, even many of the celebrity guests have never heard or consumed some of the ingredients showcased.

Watched an episode...Gyoza vs. Liver & Leeks...

dayem those gyoza looked insanely delicious!

one of the restaurants showcased served gyoza made with kurobuta and shrimp.....that's just not fair for us off-worlders to have to suffer the sight, the sound, and not the taste of those gyoza. :shakehead:
