I just couldn't resist it after I played with it all day at a local camera shop. As soon as you put your eyes up to the view finder... *drool..........................................................................

95% image size... *drool...............................................

There're a lot more reason as to why I upgraded.. but... *drool..................................................................

If anyone's interested.. I'm selling my D50 with all accessories, +additional battery, +quantaray 28-90mm f/3.5-5.6, +Nikon gadet bag all for $525 + shipping. It's only about 3 months old, and still have recipts.

Picked up the SB-600 today, now to try the thing out.

I'm debating whether to get a 55-200 F4-5.6 or 70-300 F4-5.6 lens to compliment the 18-70 lens I've got. The 70-300 from Nikon is a cheapy plastic mount one but is farther reaching (450mm equivalent). The 55-200 is slightly better constructed (more expensive), but only goes 200mm (300mm equivalent).

Ugh, that's what I hate about those APS-sized sensors: the scaling factor.... Unless you buy an APS-dedicated lens, you get screwed on the focal lengths... That's why I'm holding out until the full-size sensored cameras (i.e. Canon) become more affordable... :fingerscrossed:

For the most part it's okay...except you can't use lenses made for digital SLRs on non-digital ones...the lens doesn't cover the sensors. Although I think I can use other lenses which aren't APS-dedicated, since they cover the sensor and then some....but I wouldn't really know since I'm a noob. :bonk:

Frisens decided that they liked me and gave me $1500 to spend on equipment. So I'm gonna get me a canon

Yeah you can buy regular 35mm film lenses and use 'em on a dSLR, but you pay more for high-tech glass than you actually use with an APS sensor.

I was actually looking at getting some used lenses that came from 35mm SLRs, but I'm not sure if it'll work, and if it does work, the limitations with using it on a dSLR. But the older lenses seem to have been built better.

If the lenses have the same bayonet mount as your D50, you can use them... However, you might not have automatic aperture control and/or autofocus, depending upon the age of the lens...

I think I heard that. That means full manual mode... and for me it would be a slow process just to take a photo.

If you take landscapes or still lifes a lot that would be okay... The D50 goes full manual, ne?

I actually have the D70 (Buru^2 is selling his D50), but they all have a manual mode and have dials to adjust the shutter and aperture.

Cool.

Wait for the new 10MP Canon 400D/Rebel XTi to be released soon... $899 MSRP. :woot:

D70 it is.

And you'll have to manually focus as well.

I'm guessing that's body only...not bad for 10MP. It's slightly cheaper than the D80 ($999) and the D200 ($1499).

Yes, that to. Oh well, I guess I need to get the lenses with the CPU in it.

No CPU, just a ring motor, usually ultrasonic... Or is that just Canon?

Ack, getting geeky now. Gomen. :bonk:

Yup, body only.

The best bang for the buck in the dSLR world, though. :)
