OMG the DVD_Decrypter is awsome. Thanks again

Now, I just need to know how to convert the VOB file to MPEG.
Got any good software anyone??? :bonk:

You should search through videohelp.com... :)

I use TMPGEnc to do the conversion: http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=TMPGEnc

oh, i'm already aware that Trick 1-3 is up on BT and ABMJ. Trick 1 and 2 are probably from my copies (just divxed versions).. :hehe:

I just wished that they would air Trick up here with subs so i can capture it myself. Trick 1 was a VHS rip, Trick 2 the subs were iffy, as for Trick 3 that was done by Haruspex (and BMWracer-which i already have his version).

It would be nice to have someone in LA capture and post the Korean dramas in HQ. but i know i'm asking for too much.

Funny you should mention the Trick series: I just got Trick - The Movie (thanks, Geezer :D) and noticed that the aspect ratio is distorted... I'll have to re-encode the movie to correct the aspect ratio...

Also, my copies of Trick (so-so video) and Trick2 (bad subs) need some work... Maybe I'll try ripping my VHS copies of those two series to see if they're any better...

OR, if you can send me a copy of your VHS tapes, i could remaster Trick 1 and 2!!! hehehe.. this is a project that i've always wanted to do!
i'm sure the translator that i have for gokusen would love to do the Trick series!!! i could get Trick 1 on dvd. :) Just a thought.

What's the process you go through to correct the aspect ratio? Also...I just finished encoding from DVD/MPEG to avi a show that was recorded on DVD-R. It should be 4:3 but it plays somewhat distorted on my computer (looks more like 16:9). When I ran it in GSpot it shows a 1 for Pixel Aspect Ratio, but from what I've read NTSC TV has a .9 Pixel aspect ratio, which I think is the problem. Is there anyway to correct this in the header to tell it to apply a .9 pixel aspect ratio...or should I not worry about it? I haven't played it back on my TV to see how it looks but I'm sure it'll probably play fine (it's just annoying that it looks more widescreen on my monitor).

That's exactly what I going to do...Thing is, I made the mistake of recording all those episodes on EP speed...

Maybe when I'm done, I'll ship the tapes off to you and give you a whack at it... :)

Well, I'm using TMPGEnc Plus to make the correction: I can specify the aspect ratio of the input stream and TMPGEnc will make the necessary conversion... So even though my source is 4:3 (but obviously distorted), I specify the input as 16:9 and the correction is made... I'm still sorta experimenting with it, but I think I'm on the right track...

Hmm, I'm not sure about this...What are you using for playback on your PC? Is it possible your constraining your video somehow, which results in the distortion?

I'm using Windows Media Player 9 (or 10)? I didn't see any setting regarding this (and I've looked)...

Try using BSPlayer. The great thing about this player is that you can manually adjust the video ratio (1:1, 4:3, 16:9, etc.) during play.

I'll check it out. I really don't watch much on my computer. Just to verify captures, etc...

I'm not sure if this affects it, but doesn't WMP have a "fix video to frame size" setting somewhere? :headscratch:

I'm not sure. Maybe. but the video aspect ratio is "fixed" when I watch it...just not with the correct ratio. It's because the video should have a .9:1 horizontal to vertical pixel ratio, but computer monitors use a 1:1 ratio. Thus the horizontal axis is stretched. It's only slightly though (I guess 10% ne). It's not too bad. If I didn't know that it was truly 4:3 I probably wouldn't notice the stretch.

Its 4 hours from Tokyo to the west...its called Little Kyoto cause it kept the culture of old Japan. Since its in the mountains it gets pretty cold as you probably remember from the series.

Directly west I take it, since Kyoto is southwest? Is there anything there really to see? Maybe I'll try to go there on my next trip. I've been to a lot of places in Japan so...it's always nice to see new places.

You're correct, racer-dude. WMP does have that option, but unfortunately it doesn't correct the pixel ratio. Even if the frame size is correct, the ratio is still majorly distorted when played under Windows. On my XP machine, using WMP, a 480x480 MPEG-2/SVCD with a 4:3 ratio is displayed where the video is much taller than the width (visually, it should be the other way around). And, videos ripped with a 1:1 ratio, running under WMP, make everyone in the video look like midgets. Even with version 10, WMP still does this. Some people say it's the MPEG-2 codec that does this, some say it's WMP that's flawed, and others say Windows is flawed. Whatever the cause is, it's definitely not the capturer/ripper that's at fault, unless he chose something REALLY odd like PAL instead of NTSC. Video player software should be able to look at the configuration of the video file, and the configuration of the Windows environment, then make the adjustments automatically.

BSPlayer actually has the exact same problem as WMP, but at least there's algorithms in the software that'll allow the user to correct it on-the-fly. And under Mac OS X running these same kinds of files, I've never had these ratio issues.

I have the same question, but for my Macintosh. I got a 7.7 GB DVD that I want to make a backup copy of into two DVD-Rs. How do I divide those Video_TS files correctly?
