I could call first but it's just about $2K for just one person.

i'm not saying you can't do that...but i'm merely suggesting that you have a reservation in hand....which doesn't necessarily mean you will pay for the hotel upfront but at least you have some assurance that you will be able to find a room in the hotel of your chosing. you don't have to get the hotel WITH the TICKET at the SAME time...i'm just saying get the hotel reservation before you leave....moreover waiting to get a hotel room the day of your first stay....strikes me that you will be paying full retail price as opposed to possibly securing a discount of if book your room in advance.

by the way, what EXACTLY costs 2,000 dollars. to book a room? where, if so?

I have no clue if this will show....

http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll?qscr=cmsh&itty=&itid=&itdx=&ecid=&fuse=1

That for AUG 14-20

It wont let me do November.

it didn't show the prices....in any case, i see where you are coming from...you're shopping for vacation packages with everything included in one price....hmmm....shop around for hotels and tickets separately too...you might be surprised to find it may turn out cheaper than that....plus i DON'T think expedia tickets are necessarily the cheapest all the time...sometimes they're prices are not as competitive as if you go thru a travel agency directly or find a discounted ticket on sale thru advertising elsewhere on the internet or even in your local newspaper...i'm not telling you what to do but don't think that the prices on expedia are dispositive regarding cheapest prices.

$2000 bucks?! that would cover the entire trip for a week, give or take a few hundred bucks....per person.
well, he should probably book the flight, (make sure there is no upcoming holiday or all the accomdations/rooms will be book), think it s/b ok though, but he should double check availability. after he books it, reserve the room, but there is no room that i heard of that cost that much for one night!, park hyatt in shinjuku is probably going for $500 a night, that's my guess, and btw: where Lost in Trans. was filmed at.

that is peak season, late jun onward until the fall, airfare will be at it's peak and it will be hot and humid in Japan, otherwise, s/b a good trip but plan carefully. That is what i have been doing these past three weeks. I am going next week to japan. Got the flight/accomodations all done. also got the JR pass, you will need it before going, esp. if you plan on visiting Kyoto/tokyo, will save you money in the long run while in japan. Check with the Travel agency for that. also research the internet for prices and availabity for airfare/hotels. Good Luck.

And the VIew!

Btw I have that movie, very funny!

Anyways so whats off Peak time?

Since you are planning to use the Rail Pass, I would take the Narita Express (NEX) from Narita to Tokyo, then transfer to Shinkansen to Kyoto. The NEX is part of the JR network so there would be no extra charge for you. And I would book the Tokyo-Kyoto trip at the same time as the Narita-Tokyo segment.

There is a newer service to reserve your train rides online, but I have not used it yet. http://www.world.eki-net.com/. I have gone to the Midori-no-madoguchi (Green ticket window) to get my tickets in the past.

thanks for the info. The JR network, does it go straight to Shinagawa station from Narita airport? read in a book that the JR-X leave times are not as frequent as the other two that leave from Narita.
The limo-bus, i took before and had plenty of luggage storage, what about the train? will it be cramped and everything. I plan on carrying a suitcase and backpack. :bonk:

not sure if they jack up the prices, but i know that they do beginning in the peak season, travel agency told me that it starts around late June and thru the summer months, prices can go past $1100 or more per airfare roundtrip. Dec? might be offseason, then again, you might research it.
yeah park hyatt, what a view and grand 5 star hotel, my friend and i are going to visit the park hyatt in shinjuku. Yeah, been watching Lost in trans. atleast twice in the past week.

maybe you can find a cheap flight from vancouver to los angeles or san francisco and then fly to japan on a separate flight from there....so hopefully the grand total you spend on airfare is less than what you were quoted...

i flew out of LAX in October...and I paid around 700 dollars for my ticket.
