2 small suggestions that might help with all the DoS attacks and downtime. pokute in the D-Addicts forums had a solution for the problem (here). It limits the simultanous connections from 1 IP address on an Apache server. It's called mod_limitipconn. There are multiple version, .c, perl...

There was also a new version of phpBB released today (April 7th, 2006). Version 2.0.20. It might patches a few security holes and there is one line in the change log that's interesting.
Added configurable search flood control to reduce the effect of DoS style attacks

I'm getting this error trying to send a PM:

Could not connect to smtp host : 111 : Connection refused

I removed the SMTP settings. Try again? :)

the loading of the main page seems to be a bit sluggish recently after what seemed to be an improvement in speed after this site was migrated to a new server :headscratch:

That must be related to your PC or ISP, because the site loads instantly for me at anytime of the day.

perhaps but i've been around here long enough to know that it isn't as quick as it should be or was after the migration.

I don't see how it could be "quicker" than instant, I loaded the main page in less than a second, pictures and all.

Yes I did, when someone blames their own problems on someone else I think it's only natural to reply.

im curious if you have anything to do with the new server, because you're (IMHO) being overly sensitive, i didn't read any malice or lay of blame in Triky's post...
