Once upon a time Halloween was a religious holiday. But Americans tend to get religious stuff fuddled up.

Halloween. Feast of All Souls. = Dress up like something out of a horror movie and demand candy.

Easter. The Resurrection of Christ. = Easter egg hunts & chocolate candy.

Christmas. Birth of GOD!!! = Toys toys toys!!!!! Gimme gimme gimme!!!

America may have its problems, but in terms of religious holidays... we rock.

lol it's all about commericalization and economic gain. It makes me sick.

I know I've done this rant numerous times, but I hate what has been done to Christmas, especially now when it's not even christmas anymore, but "seasonal holiday". I'm sorry, it's a RELIGIOUS holiday, and I don't think it is at all polically incorrect to call it CHRISTMAS. Especially now when other religious holidays are respected and celebrated. Don't strip a religion to make another one stand out. It's dumb.

So yea, I totally agree that we're ruining the origins of these events, and this is evident when you read articles like what Tu-san posted, where the holiday hits another country and the citizens of that country have no idea of its origins. Sorta defeats the purpose.

When it comes to Halloween, I'm particularly un-neighborly. :beaten:

actually, my friend has a BIG party every yr with hayrides, moonbounce for the kids everything. this yr's theme is "Pirates of the carribeans" , we've built a big @$$ boat out of a dumpster (something like 40X15) just like the flying dutchman. BTW, this is at the end of the hayride, and after about 2 minutes of sword fighting, the show ends. That is the longer story of how i became Jack sparrow. :victory:

Ya know, "TP" has been mentioned numerous times already, but it wasn't until I read KRIM'S post that I realized what it meant.
