In my opinion, ABS-CBN is the one to be blamed. They should have expected a massive crowd to come to their event, knowing the prizes that they will give away, and should have done the event in a much bigger location (like Quirino Grand Stand) :shakehead: .

If that is the story then half the blame would also have to go with the people. Why should they have a "me first" mentality? In their rush to try to get a little something they decide to trample those who were waiting longer than them.

BTW, this behavior is not limited to this incident. It happens all around the world, and who gets hurt?? Often the children. :shakehead:

Actually, I sort of have insider information :)

The reason why J-Dramas aren't being shown here in the Philippines is because they're more expensive to import than K-Dramas and Chinese Telenovelas. It's not really about the schedule because the 1 hour shows can be cut into two (like what they usually do with K-Dramas and Chinese Dramas).

I have a friend who works in one of the two major TV stations (pick one :) ). They were trying to find an Asianovela that they can pit against another Asianovela being shown at that time. I suggested J-Dramas. After a week, she came back for another "consultation" and she said they couldn't because they're much too expensive.

Unlike anime, getting the license for dramas are much more complicated.

So there :)

Sana nakatulong.

BTW I'm a newbie here (though not a Drama newbie) . Do you know where I can get copies of J-Dramas here sa Metro Manila area? Thanks!

Hmmm......I guess you're right. Isn't the "me first" mentality the same as "crab mentality"? :hehe: Anyway, in this incident, not just the children but also middle-aged women. The average age of the dead people in this incident was like 40-60, mostly mothers. But I can't blame them. The program advertised so much by saying "nobody will go home empty handed". If that was really their plan then they should have done the event in a much spacious venue to accomodate a massive crowd. Marius Corpus, head of the Ultra fact-finding commitee stated "It was like slicing a small piece of meat to a hungry pack of wolves". :shakehead:

They may be expensive alright, but look at the profit that they will make if jdoramas hit the market big time! Oh well, seems like they don't wanna take risk :grumble: .

Anyway, welcome to the forum coven :woot:

Sou desu ka. Hmm, kinda weird, since Jdoramas only have 11 or 12 eps against 20+ for Chi and K dramas. I wonder what part of the bill makes it expensive. Or maybe Japanese stations benchmark the prices of their own series with what taiwanese and Korean stations are charging. :grumble:

Thanks for the insider look.

You could get some doramas in greenhills, theatermall 2nd floor, near the PS shop. They also sell anime. Or you could do it the unusual way, at http://tinda-ko.tripod.com/order.htm or at http://www.geocities.com/pg7379. Haven't tried them though.

Hello saito and akasaka hiker!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

It's the license daw. Aside from it being really difficult to get, it's also very expensive. I agree that they're wasting on a good opportunity here. 'Coz honestly, our local shows could learn a thing or two from J-Dramas.

I'll ask about this topic more thoroughly and I'll give you updates, if there are. I haven't heard of Gokusen being shown here, I'll ask about that one first :)

hi coven!!! welcome!!! thanks for the info. lots of us here seriously crossing our fingers for jdo. (gma7 come on!!!! haha)

anyway, you could always try to go to new divisoria mall. at the third floor. though there's only limited titles to chose from, they're really affordable. or you can always contact those who sell online if you don't wanna go to divi. hope this helps!

ahahaha... it makes a lot of sense to be scared for the sake of the shows getting bastardized and everything... but i'm excited and i do hope they show more jdrama in the philippines. the koreanovelas are already too rampant, IMHO.

i wanna see gokusen 1&2 (again :woot:), shinsengumi, GTO, YUA...

hi, evil_zai!

and coven is actually... *gasps* a girl :)

thanks for all the help re: buying of jdramas :)

gokusen should have been shown sa GMA but they held it off indefinitely. reason, medyo confidential. although i think they are balancing their programming. but once they'll air it, it will probably be the start of more j-dramas on tv.

oh still classified so my post isn't detailed. they have some sure-fire jdrama hits coming up, but not soon (for us i guess nothing is soon enough). i guess there will be jdramas on philippine tv in the near future.

btw, qtv is showing heaven's coins everyday (M-F) from 2 to 3 PM.

more updates next time :)

Are they still airing Latin novelas there?? I remember when they couldn't stop talking about Marimar and I forgot what else. I also hope they give J-dramas a chance..but you do know that they would probably have to promote it heavily. Just to get back some of the licensing costs.

^^^ dochski.. i wouldn't be surprised.. but I think I did hear something about the doramas being expensive..

I think some remnants can be found on the afternoon skeds of the bigger networks. But they're not the talk of the town anymore. GMA has initiated a unique brand of Filipino telenovelas --- fantasy. Don't get me wrong though, fantasy as in those in fairy tales. Their recent lineup had Darna, Mulawin and a "LOTR"-inspired Encantadia/Etheria.

Keep your fingers (and toes!) crossed :fingerscrossed: because Gokusen might finally come Philippine TV's way...

heard from a very very very reliable source that it might finally air before summer. :applaud:

i disagree... i wish that they don't push through with the plan to air Gokusen. K dramas and Chinese dramas are so rampant in the PI right now that its sickening. I think the these tv stations should work on making their own note-worthy dramas...no fantasies (their terrible in that field).... its pathetic how they look to other countries to entertain the local masses. its a sign that they admit that they can't do better or even equal to. just my opinions.
