Hello everybody, this is going to be a long post. Hehehe. It is remotely related to jdoramas but it may concern pinoys who are interested in the Japanese language. I am a frustrated graduate (I was supposed to be graduating in March but I got a failing mark on a pesky non-major subject ) so I will post about job opportunities. People not interested are encourage to skip the rest of my post hehehe.
A Japanese owned internet company is looking for online English teachers who are also proficient in Japanese. The requirements are: (1) You have some sort of teaching experience (tutoring people in school may count; better if you had experience teaching foreign nationals a language. Koreans come into mind. ^_^ ) (2) You are conversant in English and gvery knowledgeableh of its grammar. (3) You are at least a yon (4) kyuu passer of the JLPT.
It pays as much as any other call center or more (as much as a junior manager in those bigshot companies) depending on your English ability, Japanese proficiency and teaching skills combined. (12,500~21,000)
Well, since the Japanese have an active afternoon to night lifestyle (that explains why a seinen anime is showing in a Japanese channel (if you have cable) in the wee hours of the day and why gprimetimeh doramas are like 10-11 in the evening.), the job has rather different working hours. Typical working day starts at 2pm to 11pm. The office is somewhere in Ortigas.
Those interested can call 638-69-79 by 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm or email your resume to
[email protected].
Btw, I am not an employee though I tried applying (details later in the post).
I have a word of caution. Though, they say that they require at least a yon kyuu JLPT certification, I called them already and apparently (from what I can concur about what they need as I question/they interview me) they need guys who are at the very least somewhere between level 3 and level 2.
Let me share how my phonecall went. The phone was answered by a snobbish pinay secretary sporting a British accent. As I was inquiring about the job she cannot help being snotty. Then lo, I told her that I was a level 4 JLPT passer. She suddenly became nice and then passed the phone to the Japanese manager, Moritani-san. Moritani-san gave his salutations and then proceeded to speak in Nihongo. It was nerve-wracking. I could not comprehend what he was saying. I was able to conceptualize the grammar patterns in my head but the words (verb, interrogative noun), etc. are the ones I donft know yet. There was dead air for about 3 mins after his 2nd question. Then, I politely asked that if we can continue speaking but now using English. He told me just to pass my resume online and he will see if I match what they are looking for.
That was discouraging. I was happy when I saw the ad/post in our placement office because I am a level 4 passer. It is surprising to have a company hire people with only level 4 proficiency. Companies usually hire those speakers with at least level 3 proficiency. It was a good thing I did not give out my name. hehehe
Another job opportunity to those who know Japanese or French and is also very good in English (but we are in the Philippines, that is a given, right? ^_^). Explorasia is looking for those who can/willing to do research or translation work. Contact the email address,
[email protected] , if you are interested.
Well, that was long. Maybe, Ifll post some other time a good way for all the pinoy IT-inclined professionals to go/ to work (the probability is like 70%)to/in Japan.Jya, mata ne? ^_^
