This Asadora has a particularly strong cast of actresses. In addition to Ryoko Kuninaka as the lead, Tomi Taira as the grandma, and Miho Kanno whose performance stood out the most in my mind, the cast also included a pair of really good veteran actresses--Kimiko Yo and Keiko Toda.
[/list:u] And most importantly from my point of view, Churasan was the dorama debut of Manami Konishi :woot: [/list:u] (can't believe I almost forgot that, I must be getting senile  )

She's in this too?! Sugoi!

There are so many familiar faces in this show that it's wonderful when a new character is introduced.

Alrighty, so I'm on epi 104.

Spoiler — click to revealI found the marriage way too rushed! I mean, they met and married so quickly, and although I got why that was, I felt that just one episode on the wedding was not enough!

You put into words why I felt ill at ease at that point also. However,
Spoiler — click to reveal Eri looked almost angelic in that first wedding dress... In fact they both looked perfectly gorgeous... a well designed set with the lighting giving them that 'the most beloved and popular couple in the yearbook' look. In the original broadcast that must have been the moment I realized what a gorgeous doll Kuninaka Ryoko is. Naturally once that sunk in, for me, she is always the most gorgeous idol in Japan.

There are several more important story lines coming up which may have influenced the producers to rush this time frame.

You want me to spoil?

Let's put it this way. As you may have noticed already various cast members have had their own little byline stories.... in time they all do.
But there are at least two more major story lines yet to unfold. :victory:

LOL! Which is what's so great, because she's lost her hard edge. :hehe:

Spoiler — click to revealI love that Eri is going to have baby. I'm convinced that it'll be a boy and that they'll name him Kazuya. I think I'd be a little disappointed if they didn't. :fingerscrossed:

My Review: 10/10

I absolutely ADORED Churasan, and Ifm so grateful that they released three sequels to fulfill the needs of devoted fans.

Although Churasan has a somewhat predictable and almost unrealistic plot, it is still an excellent watch. Sometimes you just need a happy-go-lucky storyline where everything always works out and everyone is left with a smile on his or her face. Churasan is the type of drama that reminds you that there IS happiness and peace in the world and that leaving things to Fate and Time is not such a bad idea after all.

What makes Churasan so wonderful and addictive is the group of memorable characters. My favourite above all is Mariya (Kanno Miho) | the dark, mean (but kind-hearted), realist author of fairytales. Her goofy grin when she receives delicious donuts from Oba, or her groan whenever people barge into her room, or the way she flings herself onto her couch when suffering from writers block, or the way she tries to hide in order to eavesdrop, and the way she is always caught in an embarrassing situationc all these thins contribute to her unique and memorable character. Following at a close second is Yuko-chan (Yo Kimiko), the outspoken, very kind and loving, motivated, aggressive, loyal, and hilarious woman who seems to connect all the characters together. And we mustnft forget Eri, played by Kuninaka Ryoko. Ryoko-chan completely blew me away. Her performance is perfection itself and without her in this role this drama would not be as grand as it is. One will never tire of her big gorgeous smile and eyes that reveal more of the character than just mere actions could.

Of course, there are so many characters in this drama, and each one is memorable. The writers did an excellent job concocting each character, and each actor/actress did a phenomenal job turning those characters into masterpieces.

Watching Churasan is like being part of the family. You laugh with them, cry with them, and above all, you enjoy the time you spend being a part of them. This drama is HIGHLY recommended!

I remember Churasan. It was the first asadora drama I ever watched. It got me hooked. These days I still prefer the asadora to the taiga dramas. The other show I started watching in the early days (for me) was Hatachi no Kekkon. I need to see if anyone's seeding that one....

That'd be cool :). Do you meant send it physically or send the file over the internet?

I'll send it to you physically. PM me!

On Topic: I finished the sequel.

My Review: 8/10

There was no real story for Churasan 2. It just seemed to be an extension of the first season. However, for Churasan fans (like myself), the sequel was very enjoyable.

First off, I love the fact that right away the sequel delved into the family/relationship aspect of the characters. In the later Churasan episodes the dynamic between characters diminished slightly and focused only on Eri and Kazuya. With the sequel, however, they put an importance on each characterfs relation to others, which I had greatly missed and really appreciated.

Second, I was VERY pleased to see that EVERY actor/actress returned to play their roles. No character was replaced (even the smaller, less important characters returned!) and even the setting/locations remained consistent.

Third, although there was no real story, the overall storyline/plot revolving Eri and her peers progressed. We got a taste of what Eri was up to and the new additions to her life. This was great. It really makes me feel like wefre watching her grow and mature further and further in life.

The one bad point of the sequel is that it was too short (only 6 episodes!). But there is a third sequel, so I wonft fret too much. :D

I too was struck by the reappearance of the original cast. Considering that most of the major actors had advanced to the A list and where in continuous productions after the overwhelming success of the original Churasan.

Along the same theme, I'm somewhat amazed that they were able to seamlessly re-enact their original character. Consider that Shibata san
played the ultra serious father in Haru to Natsu just before Churasan 4. What a transition for this amazing actor. Keitatsu in Crying Out Love In The Center Of The World.... between Churasan segments. Mariya in countless dramas between all Churasan segemts.

And of course Eri, in Say Hello To Blackjack. Eri who is the glue around which all the themes in the Churasan series revolve. I can't think of any other actress who could have played Eri's role and made it into this huge success. Yeah yeah... I know you're all going to throw your favorite names at me.... but if you really are honest who could have had such universal appeal with such charismatic smile and been so consistent for the 4 sequel drama. Even though I have several favorites on the same platform heights as Kuninaka Ryoko, none of them could have played this role into the super stratosphere of asadora history.

:applaud: :applaud: :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

I do agree the sequels do no match up to the original drama mostly because they are too short to build the relationships that were so endearing in the original.

Replying needs an account. Registration opens soon.
