I don't like those pictures of Juri that much. Most modeling pics of her for that matter. Not exactly sure why, but her candids or film/jdorama caps are much better since they seem to show her personality more, which is one of her stronger points. Interviews are obviously great in this as well, but professional captures and shots just don't do it for me, as they're setup/arranged, touched up and just more bland. Completely opposite to say that of a cosmetics/perfume model (Yukie Nakama or Misaki Itoh maybe..)... where they are perfect for stills/poses for ads, but not as great in action. They are more of the "classic" beauties and probably have more of a hotness quality to them.
Juri, though, shines more when she can exhibit her personality more, and is more on the lines of the "sweet" girl. Juri's still pretty, but visually in a more seemingly down-to-earth and normal girl way...Which is a compliment... i think. She doesn't exude any "hotness" for professional photos. Not that she comes off as ugly or anything like that in those above type pictures, but not her best-lookin either.
OK, that was kinda a short rant ... Hope I don't come off as sounding too absurd.

i have to agree with you on most of that. Juri just isn't the picture model kind of person (tamaki hiroshi is), which is what this latest photobook is trying to convey. it's leagues better than her first, nondescript photobook which had her in swimsuits and was just bleh. :bleh:

Juri-sama, as I keep saying, is not gravure material. She is more of the girl-next-door with a kick-ass attitude than those selling themselves by stripping close to their birthdays suites.
This photo book won't appeal to those looking to see a bit of flesh, but does display Juri-sama's spontaneity and personality very well.

i'm going to get a pen and write that down on the back of my hand.

I think it totally depends on what you're looking for... When I bought the photobook, I wasn't looking for "hotness" or some kinda gravure stuff: that's not who she is or what she's about.
Bottom line is that she's not a model, but an actress, ne?

I agree.
She's the tomboyish girl-next-door that you play with and are friends when you're little... Then when you grow up, you realize how special she really is.

Ah, yes. Good point. However, there does seem to be a lot of blending of gravure models and actresses. Seems like lots of young actresses started off doing bikini photoshoots or similar gravure stuff. Perhaps not so much in the reverse. Either way, I definitely view Juri more as an actress than anything else .... I suppose I just haven't seen that many "posed" pics of Juri as much as her in dramas and movies. The gravure stuff isn't for her, as she radiates in her own different style. :woot:

Too bad she wasn't my neighbor growing up....

Exactly.
If you take a look at some of the swimsuit pics that she did pose for, she doesn't look particularly comfortable for the most part... But I guess it goes with the territory: seems like all J-actresses have to take that (rather exploitative) path...
