"Swing Girls" was not Ms. Ueno's first venture in the movie world, but it was the one that put Ms. Ueno on the map, so to speak. I've spent a lot of time doing screen caps on this movie, and would like to post them in batches, as I usually do. First, though, I'll start off with a synopsis of the story for those who have not yet had the good fortune of watching this movie.
It's summer time in Yonezawa, Yamagata ken (northeast of Japan). A group of 13 girls were taking make-up math class in the suffocating heat. Outside the building, the school band was getting ready to leave on a bus, rallying for the school's baseball team on an away match.
Shortly after the bus left, a delivery van turned up with the band's lunch boxes. Our heroine, Suzuki Tomoko (Ms. Ueno) came up with an idea - they'll deliver the lunch boxes to the band, thereby skiving math class. Her fellow classmate Sato Yoshie (Kanjiya Shihori) caught on and the two of them persuaded the math teacher, Mr. Osawa (Takenaka Naoto), to let the class go.
The girls got on the train, and even sampled one of the lunch boxes on the way. However the hot weather got the better of them and they all fell asleep, missing the intended stop. They ended up walking back to the stadium with the lunches. The band's general dogs-body, Nakamura Takuo (Hiraoka Yuta), got the girls to distribute the lunches, only to find out that there was one short - his. Having done their noble duty, the girls proceeded to karaoke and Nakamura was left queuing at the kiosk for some food.
It turned out that the lunch boxes had gone bad because of the heat and the girls' tardiness. The whole of the school band and their teacher, Itan Yayoi (Shiraishi Miho), were taken ill leaving only Nakamura intact. The baseball team had another match in 2 weeks and they needed the school band. The task of getting a substitue band fell on Nakamura's shoulders and he held an audition for wannaby band members.
Only a geeky girl, Sekiguchi Kaori (Motokariya Yuika), and a couple of hard-rock guitar players, Yamamoto Yuka (Mizuta Fumiko) and Watanabe Hiromi (Sekine Kana), turned up for the audition. Nakamura managed to cajole the 13 girls to join the band. In fact it was Suzuki's idea again - they can skip math class altogether. As there were insufficient people for a brass band, Nakamura decide to form a big band (jazz).
After some intensive training the girls began to play a piece. The school band, however, had recovered and took over from the girls...
The rest of the story involved the girls trying to form their own band. Getting jobs to pay for the instruments, even getting help from a mysterious person. I don't want to give away the plot too much so you'll have to figure things out from the screen caps.

Thank you for your encouraging words. While I'd most certainly appreciate if other chime-in, posting the screen caps is a reward for me in its own right. :woot:
