I am still very big on K-dramas cuz i started watching them before J-Dramas, but some time it depend on the plot that make a Drama good like Full House for ex with Song Hye Gyo & Bi Rain: it was about love, but it also show alot of comedy as well as sad moments, but these days J-dramas r like the top of my list!!! :hehe:

Not necessarily.

I think MissyMon (where is she, BTW?) likes K and J dramas equally well... :)

yeah. the style is rather different. especially for the love-themed ones. IMO, it's like what the Koreans consider 'cute' is different from the Japanese' . it might be a cliche to some people, but to me, it's actually k-doramas' trademark.

talk about missymons, where is she?

i have to say it all depends on what i want to watch at the time both jdrama and k dramas are both good
both sometimes have good dramas and on the other hand they have borning ones
it just cannot be help

wow this is a differentype of thread :beatyou:

I think it comes down to what you are looking for in each style. Historical drama? Japanese all the way for me. The Sengoku period is very unique in history, as were the people it created. Modern? I like Japanese, but I'm edging towards the Korean. Japanese are quite good on the light-modern dramas, but Koreans are great with romance. Koreans have tragedy wrapped up to an almost comical level.

i think its nice that some people here talk about kdramas :woot:

well for me, what i like about them is how they act out the the love story w/c i dont find in some jdramas.

well for me jdrama is better than kdrama . i can more appreciate the effort of the jdrama than kdrama . the kdrama is nice but jdrama is better .
:hehe:

it depends..

if you are for some tearjerker, comedic sometimes, animated, focuses on frendship with light love stories but dont expect that the couple will always end up with each other, go for jdramas.

if you are for mostly heavy drama, with twisted traditional drama theme, sometimes funny and cheesy love stories, go for kdrama.

..... hey what about taiwan dramas? hehe

I'm a fan of both Korean and Japanese dramas, but I find that a lot of Korean dramas have the same cliched plots or side stories. That could be because I've only watched the melodrama types. On the other hand, since Korean dramas usually have 16 episodes or more, you get a better feeling for the characters and the storylines than Japanese dramas, which seem rushed sometimes.

Still, I prefer Japanese dramas because they don't always have the cliched happy endings. They also tend to show the dark side of things and don't sugar-coat it like a lot of Korean dramas do. There are also different types of genres that I haven't seen in Korean dramas. Of course, I could be mistaken since I've only seen a handful of K-dramas.

Kdramas seem a little too depressing for me,it seems ike their ratings for the shows depend on the number of buckets it makes the audience cry. On the other hand,I'm always happy while watching Jdramas and there are more to learn about life from Jdramas than Kdramas.

For me,it has always been Jdrama that is on the top of my list as compared to dramas from anywhere in the world really.

Have you watched 1 Litre of Tears or Sekai no chuushin de, ai wo sakebu? Those were tear-jerkers, the former, especially. And as for depressing dramas, Kono Yo no Hate has possibly got every Korean (and Japanese) drama out there beat.

I am speaking in general. Most of the Korean dramas are sad, aren't they? As compared to Japanese dramas. I've watched 1 litre of tears but not the others you've mentioned.Jdramas have got their fair share of tearjerkers but not as much as Kdramas where almost every one is sad isn't it?

Well, maybe I haven't watched enough of K or J dramas to do a very fair comparison but that is how the dramas from the 2 countries appear to me from the dramas I've watched.

Now that I think about it, you're right. Practically all of the Korean dramas I've watched has some sad element to it, but in the end, it usually has a happy ending.

And if you're not into depressing dramas, stay away from the jdrama that I mentioned earlier. It had me depressed for days afterwards. :(

Actually alot of people do. Im partial to jdramas for the most part. But there have been some kdramas Ive adored.
I think everyone should treat themselves to Dae Jang Guem for instance. What a remarkable series that was.
Anyone who likes melodrama would certainly enjoy the kdramas. The Koreans are even bigger into that genre than the Japanese.
