"Ooku" cast includes Horikita, Tamaki
Additional cast members have been revealed for the upcoming live-action film "Ooku," which stars Kou Shibasaki (28) and Arashi's Kazunari Ninomiya (26). Joining them are Maki Horikita (21), Hiroshi Tamaki (30), Sadao Abe (39), and Kanjani8's Tadayoshi Okura (24).
Directed by Fuminori Kaneko, the film is an adaptation of the Fumi Yoshinaga manga of the same name. The story is a historical fiction set during the Edo period, in which a mysterious disease significantly reduces Japan's male population, resulting in women becoming the dominant members of society.
In December, it was revealed that Shibasaki is playing the role of the female shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune, while Ninomiya is playing the part of Mizuno, a young man who joins the ranks of the "ooku" (the "inner chambers"). Horikita has been cast as O-nobu, the childhood friend of Mizuno who harbors feelings for him.
Tamaki, Abe, and Okura will play key members of the ooku. Tamaki's character is Matsushima, a high-ranking member of the elite O-chuurou class. Abe is playing Sugishita, a low-ranking member who has served for many years but has given up on promotion. Okura, who is making his big screen debut in this film, has been cast as Mizuno's rival, the expert swordsman Tsuruoka.

another "Edo" theme movie?
I'm rooting for Tamaki
I actually read the first volume of the manga this is based on. The lead female character is supposed to be an ice princess so Shibasaki is perfectly cast in this role.

I've never read the manga before. Is it a good one?
Shibasaki Kou would be perfect, I like her in Dororo. Apart from Tamaki being in the cast members, she's also the one that gets me excited _________________

Finished downloading Detective Bureau 2 and 3, movies come in 5 parts, don't think you can join them. No big deal, was going to transfer them to DVD, guess that just means a second gap between files, then again considering the price ... sigh, how many other people in the world can say they will have seen 4 Shishido movies within a week. _________________

avi? mpg? mkv?
.vob, just converted them to .avi to put on disc, think because the file was so big it split them but not in a way HJ split can join, like I said no biggie, as long as I can watch good movies like these a minor convienence is okay, Casshern is almost done and that file is so much bigger. _________________

I'm with EstherM. I watched "Insutanto Numa" (aka Instant Swamp") this after noon, and had a wonderful time.
It's not as outright wacky, as "Jiko Keisatsu" but it's a wonderful study in silliness. Satoshi Miki (the writer/director) seems to really enjoy the "life is what you make it" theme.
Since that put me in such a good mood I'm going to watch the first "Tora-San" movie tonight.
Seems odd that for all the old, obscure Japanese films I've watched and collected over the years... I've never seen any of the "Tora-San" movies.
AnimEigo just put out a boxed set of the first 4 films, so I broke down and bought them (retail!!!). If they're half as good as I'm expecting I should be in clover. _________________
