Is anyone watching "Sakura"? It is a little goofy and over acted but in a good way. It's about a 3rd generation Japanese from Hawaii who is engaged to another America. She decides to go to Japan to connect with her rootes and teach English. She seems to both cause trouble and fix trouble all the time. It is a pretty entertaining show.

It's currently airing here in San Francisco. I watched the first couple of episodes but I didn't like it too much. It didn't hold my interest like Churasan did.

i agree CHURASAN was a top rated dram when it first aired in japan.... and as the ratings show SAKURA did not do quite as well even in japan.. maybe it was the whole 'gaijin' concept... but to be it just gets real repedetive Applaud

*edit and besides KANNO MIHO is in churasan...so that right there automaticaly makes it a good drama...lol jk Bleah ..... BTW when is churasan 2 going to come out? since the cast has ralready been set*

I enjoyed the performance by shiho Takano very much in Sakura.

I think the problem with this series was that it had the misfortune to be scheduled right after Churasan. At first I had trouble focusing on this drama since I was still going thru Churasan withdrawal.

For those who are also going thru Churasan withdrawal, I started a Kuninaka Ryoko gallery to help you out Big Grin

I think you may have a good point. It's is pretty tough following in the footsteps of Churasan which I loved. I am at the point in the series when I am a little tired of it too. I will probably continue watching it but I am a little dissapointed that you can see what the problem will be that episode and how it will be resolved.

Okay, that's three of us in the Bay Area so far who are watching Sakura.

I've been enjoying Sakura. But as with Churasan, and the show before it... I forget the name right now. The one about the little girl Mo who grows up at the Train Station... these shows go on a little long for me.

I'm about out of gas with Sakura now, but as with the others, I expect I'll miss it when it's gone.

sangmin,

Just wondering. Do you guys get Sakura more than once a week down south?

Up here, the "Saturday Morning" shows are purely once a week affairs. Saturday night, 9 pm.

Geezer, youa re so right. The first 10 or so episodes of Sakura were just a fog as I was having a hard time withdrawing from Churasan. But I finally got into it and now that I'm halfway thru Hon Manon, I still miss Sakura. BUT, I'm also getting to really enjoy Hon Mamon.

I hope they will show Churasan 2 after this so we can have a little flashback to what I feel is the best drama they ever had.

BTW that eerie train series before Churasan with MO was much too sad as well as boring to keep my attention. I watched it out of force of habit more than anything hoping all along that it would end swiftly.

Well, Sakura was just a really bad show. From the episodes I watched, there was just so much rampant stereotyping going on, and it was basically a "meet the genno-gaijin" in the later episodes. She didn't teach much English, she didn't experience a bit of culture shock, nothing. Rather than being a show that would help shed light on gaikokujins living in Japan and cultural differences, it was just stereotype, stereotype, stereotype.

Smile I'm also live SF and I've been catching Sakura every saturday night at 9pm. It's a cute little show and I think it was meant to be more of social commentary. They've tackled issues like men's/women's roles in a japanese marriage, entrance exams in japan and japan's homegenous society that suppressed individuality.

Read this article below....about Sakura.

People who've already seen it...
Does Sakura end up with Katsuragi-sensei? I know I'm terrible.... Wink

I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area and I've really been enjoying the NHk Sakura morning serial. They play it here once a week on saturday nights. Since it's 152 episodes...I dont know if I can wait another two years to see how it ends! Can someone give me so spoilers? Also, they just showed the first episode of letter O. How many more to go? It seems that each letter is 3-4 episodes.

Aw c'mon man. What's the point of actually "tuning in"? A spoiler (IMO) is a wuss's way out. Have some patience. It'll be well worth the wait if you stick it out for the whole 152 eps. Especially since you're enjoying it, wouldn't a spoiler be bad to you at this point? Just tune in. It won't be that bad.
I've never heard of this show, but if it were good enough to catch my interest, I'd tune into the show and tune out all spoilers.
