KouSeiya315 wrote: | She'll want to go home once she gets here, LOL It took me a long ass time to miss Philly while I was in Japan. Then I came back and was like "Oh....yeah. Now I remember.". I wish I was back in Tokyo right now. It's the perfect time of year! |
You really got love for Philly huh?!
But nah, Philly does sound boring from the way you speak about it.

Well, just driving around and seeing row house after row house I do find depressing
But there are some nice things in Philly. The Art museum is great, Penn has a nice archeology museum, The Franklin Institute is lots of fun ... And have you ever been to the Mutter (medical) Museum, it's freaky! You can see lots of cool old historical places down closer to the river. Elfreth's Alley and the Old City Tavern. You can go watch the crew teams rowing on the Schuylkill River, or wander around Fairmount Park. I seem to remember there is even a Japanse Tea House in Fairmount Park that is very pretty, I wonder if it's still there.
But maybe it has all changed since I left! |
The Japanese Tea House is still here. When I took chanoyu class at school, we were supposed to visit the Japanese Tea House, but we didn't get a chance. Yeah, we have LOTS of sites and stuff like that, but for a native and living here for 23 years...there's not all that much left to see, hehehe. Plus we have the ZOO!!! Penns Landing, Academy of Natural Sciences, Independence Hall, Boathouse Row, etc.
I guess I actually like it here....I just kinda wanna extend a half a mile or so, then I'd be in the burbs. For some reason I feel like I'd be happier in the burbs I think it's because of the area I live in. My area is kinda high demand for people to live in, especially those coming from the burbs (yuppies ). In the past 5-10 years my neighborhood suddenly became "trendy". Now traffic is high and parking on your own street is harder than ever. So now with a different crop of people coming in, we are starting to get mixes of weird breeds of people. So that contributes to much of my complaining...
As for watching anything on the river, it's only when on Kelly Drive or the Schuylkill Expressway, hehe. I'm OWNED by the way, you can spell Schuylkill correctly!!

We have some bad stuff but it's really not bad...I just talk smack on it because I live here, LOL. The cops suck, that's the biggest part. And public transportation is pretty assy, but I drive so it doesn't affect me much
Shopping is decent.....there are a lot of malls in Philly and surrounding counties (I'm a mallrat, sorta). Plus....no sales tax on clothes and shoes!! YAY! And we are near stuff too. Just about all South Jersey shorepoints are within 60-75 minutes away and NYC is about 2.5 hours away. A lot of people who visit here tend to like it. Two of my friends from Japan came here...one visited twice and one is studying abroad here. They both love Philly....even the one who is still living here so I guess it ain't that bad
Where did I stay in Tokyo? I actually lived in _, right near Ru. Literally a matter of feet away, LOL. I was about 5 stops away from aJ, which came in handy

You'll run into that sort of thing if you live there
I'm glad I moved out of Philly, but I think it would still be an interesting place for someone to visit. I wouldn't recommend including North Phillly in your itinerary though

Um....YEAH. The only thing cool in North Philly is Eastern State Penitentiary. I went there on Halloween! It was AWESOME!!! Otherwise, avoid North Philly unless you need a hospital, if you go to Temple, if you need to transfer to the sub or need to get to Broad Street, if you need cheap Chinese food at 4:00 am, if your friends live there, or if you need other things
Yeah, and avoid my neighborhood too unless you know a native here. People come to hang in my frickin' neighborhood b/c it's trendy, but they are so damn inconsiderate b/c they don't live here and know how things go around here damnit. Yuppies irritate me!!!!
I would prefer to live in either Delaware County or Montgomery County (um, but NOT Norristown....thank you, drive thru). Even some parts of South Jersey would be cool (Cherry Hill, Voorhees, Berlin, etc.). Right now I'm on the very tip of the city, but still, I'd like to be outside of the city. Close enough to go in for some reason, but not in it. I end up going to the suburbs for all of my shopping anyway

I'll never doubt you live in Philly, KouSeiya315; that's a great description up there.
HEY, I'M a yuppie . . . I thought I wasn't . . . but, this afternoon, co-workers reminded me I was one. I tol' 'em, "WELL YOU GUYS ARE TOO, THEN!!!" Anyway . . .
"Subway." Now THAT's a word you never hear in Hawai'i (at least outside of conversations about a certain sandwich eatery which, yay, we DO have ).
