My Review: 8/10
Although I found the storyline, especially in the first few episodes, quite a bit like Ichi Ritoru no Namida, this drama was able to hold itfs own. I havenft seen the movie so I have nothing to compare it to, and I think this gave me an advantage while watching it.
The drama is memorable, but not necessarily because of the tragic story. The show focused more on life itself and friendship. I found this a nice change from all the other dramas in which the disease is the main character and everything else takes a second seat. Sawajiri Erika was grand in portraying her role. She was really convincing and REAL. Yamada Takayuki is one of the finest young actors out there and he didnft disappoint. The casting for all characters was nicely done. The songs featured in the drama were also lovely and added a nice touch.
I did find that the plot moved rather quickly. Everything happens so fast that itfs almost overwhelming. And I did get peeved that Karou died before she could even perform one last time. Her whole disease just seemed to be an excuse to have a tragic ending. It wasnft played out smoothly at all. Other than this, it was a good drama to watch. Itfs not up to par with other gtear-jerkersh but it still holds it own and therefore deserves a watching. _________________

You should watch the movie then for this. I found the movie to be really good. It made me cry more then Sekai no Chuushin drama
Plus Yui can really sing. Up on you though, Sensei. _________________

i agree with you. + i don't like Yamada Takayuki, so the movie was muuuchhh better for me
i dunno how to put it, but the movie felt more 'alive' . the casts's expressions like smiles are so enjoyable even without them saying a single word _________________

What brand and model was the acoustic guitar used in the drama? I especially love the sunburst design on the body of the guitar! |

The thing that I was wondering throughout the drama is when the hell do these people sleep? And if they do, they must get about 4 hours max!! I know there are scenes when all 4 guys sleep in the same room, but what about when they practiced for the band concert and worked early the next day? I wish I had that kind of energy to stay up and not be tired from work. |
lol thou they work so hard it only last them for during the summer break right if i not wrong?

So, I just finished episode 4 of this amazing show. Needless to say, I'm in a really good mood now, although I can tell from the last line and the next preview that things are gonna start getting teary pretty soon.
I absolutely love Erika Sawajiri in this show. This is only the third j-dorama i've watched (first One Litre of Tears, then Nobuta wo Produce) and I'm enjoying it more than Nobuta (which I liked but it didn't affect me NEARLY as much as One Litre of Tears.)
While Erika's characters have obvious parallels, her character in this show is less angelic than in One Litre of Tears, which is interesting. While I've still totally fallen in love with her in this show, it wasn't quite as immediate as it was with One Litre (but I'm pretty much in love with Erika Sawajiri in general anyway, so...)
It's actually made me cry so far more than One Litre of Tears. I've been a pretty steady one-cry-per-episode so far. One Litre of Tears, however, I teared up some in teh first 2 episodes, and then didn't again, until about episode 8, when I sobbed fully about 4 times per episode. So crying at this dorama i think is largely carry-over from One Litre of Tears, although I can tell it's gonna be pretty serious in at least the last 4 episodes.
So far I've managed to space this show out over like 2 and a half weeks. But now that I've gotten really involved, I bet it'll be less than a week till I'm done and am discussing the show in its entirety with all of you.

Well, now that I'm done I can say this was an absolutely amazing show to watch.
It didn't make me cry as much as One Litre of Tears. I love both but they have a very different feel to them. OLT is more about how Aya moves on and tries to live and it focuses very much on the disease, but Taiyou No Uta is more about love, friendship, dreams, and determination, and the character is very different in attitude.
I also LOVE both the songs from this dorama. I've never listened to J-Pop before, it would be quite a departure as now I listen to extreme metal/hardcore and prog. (Although I do have my soft side with bands like OURS, for example.) Anyway, I'm sure I'll download the Kaoru Amane CD very soon.
