Old thread but still relevant:

"What Japanese women want: a Western husband"
By Bennett Richardson | Correspondent of The Christian Science Monitor
Quote:
A growing number of Japanese women are giving up on their male counterparts, and taking a gamble that looking abroad for love will bring them the qualities in a partner that seem rare at home. Mr. Right, as the hope goes, is often an American or European, a man appreciative of a wife's career and more of a partner in daily tasks.

Underscoring that Japanese women are losing hope with the local boys, dating agencies to help snag a Western husband have sprung up in Tokyo, some with branches in the US and Europe. Such companies rigorously vet their clients, screening for education, family background, occupation, and life goals.

The kind of women who sign up for such services include doctors, lawyers, and other professionals - women who have delayed marriage to concentrate on careers and who aren't keen to give up hard won gains to become a housewife, as many Japanese men expect.

Still a last chance for all of youse wanting a JPN mate. Mr Green

With the exception of Koreans, I don't expect most Asians can outdrink Frenchies.

I'd say the salarymen's night out can be labeled as a bombong experience.

pcm: i'd have to agree w/ niko2x on this one. i was walking the streets of japan, and i'd see people (guys AND girls) staggering drunk out of bars at SIX pm on a weekday evening!! Shocked

i guess it was pretty surprising, since here in hawaii, i rarely see too many people even drinking before 8pm or so (unless it was a friday night after work).

is it this way in france too?

I see it, too, when I'm in Japan. That's ONE sight in Japan that I really don't understand with regard to the concept of "shame" there. Here -- and in other parts of the U.S. -- you see someone staggering out of a bar, flopping around, shouting loud, THAT is the textbook example and/or dictionary picture of "shame."

This would make a great Japanese drama theme. Check this out...

Sakai Noriko can play the pissed off wife who's husband spends all his free time surfing. Then she meets American groink-san, who will dedicate his ENTIRE LIFE to her. The two lovebirds hook up and soon gets married after about eight episodes of her friends telling Noriko the bad things about groink (he's a geek, all he sings are Japanese enka tunes, is a Republican, etc.) Mid-way, one of groink's former g/f's (a flunkie police academy cadet) will make a one-episode appearance to cause some interference, but soon realizes the bond between Noriko and groink can't be broken, even when sandwiched between two sumo wrestlers. The final episode will have Noriko's ex-husband stick a longboard up groink's rear-end, and she'll feel guilty about the surgery costs, at which then she dumps groink for a Korean man wearing a turtleneck sweater and a Johnny-boy hair-doo, the actor which will be named later in Season 2.

--- groink
