Charlie has gotten good reviews, but it seems that most agree that the Willy Wonka character is creepy, particularly compared to the Gene Wilder version...

Looooooooong = Since before I could actually read. hehe My dad said that I used to sit on my pottie (sp?) with comic books like an old man or something Sweat .

I thought that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was good, but I just like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory more. I guess its just because I'm used to it. Been a fan since childhood. The Oompa Loompa's scared the crap out of me though Google . That's really odd considering the fact that I wasn't afraid of a single scary movie as a child Confused .

When I first saw this movie, I thought it over-the-top boring and stupid. I fell asleep only after watching 10 minutes of it. Then in June I saw it on TV, dunno where it started off, but I decided to give it one more time(kept passing it in the video rental store). Watched it without sleeping, my god, fell in love with it. I dunno if it was either Scarlett's or Bill's performance, but I loved it. The weird chemistry they had with eachother was ackward, but so geniune. It was almost as if it was taboo for them. Poor Bill was stuck in a mid-life crisis, was thinking if it was best for him to leave or stay. But he knew what was right. I loved the storyline, and to me, it's so short. Possibly one of Scarlett's golden performances, I thought it was awesome.

yeah, have to agree with you, although, i didn't dislike the movie the first time i saw it, but as i watched it over and over, i grew to like it and appreciate it more. I began to appreciate the characters more in the film and thought Bill Murray and Scarlett did a great job acting. It was a slow plot in the movie, but it was funny and different and of course all about Tokyo, Japan. Applaud Victory! Peace!

Hi trish82690,

Welcome! I first saw this movie in a NYC movie theatre along with a friend from Japan. I fell in love with it right away. My friend from Tokyo recognized all the areas they filmed. So for me it felt like visiting Tokyo and for him it reminded him of home. I guess I can understand why some people just don't 'get' how really special this movie is. For me I enjoy the journey that "Lost in Translation" takes you on. I also love the music in it too. Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson were perfectly cast for their parts. It is nice to read that you gave this movie a second chance and enjoyed it. Since my first viewing I think I have seen it at least 6 or 7 times on a movie channel on TV. Each time it just keeps getting better and better. I am so glad I found some fellow "Lost in Translation" fans here.
yippee

BTW I love your avatar. Jeremy Piven is one of my favorite actors. Did you ever see him in the movie "Serendipity" along with his RL buddy John Cusack? Too good!!!! Good

I also luved the movie the first time itself .... the cool, natural and so life like atmosphere of the actors in daily life ... and yet ... BANG .. ALL the contrasts for them to be in a totally alien country in terms of communication power .... so real and yet so funny in a sarcastic yet suttle way ...

Applaud luv the movie and especially Bill murray ..... super cool

definitely, the sarcasm and etc....
makes for a funny movie. I think that they are there not really by desire to be in that area so much, but more for the job, and etc...
I would be there for it all. But not knowing the language and culture, would be something i could relate somewhat. Although i would like to learn the language and culture, which would be helpful in the future. Bonk

The movie is really great once you watch it fully. I'm the kindof person who doesn't really like quiet movies, except if it's a good one(ex. Beijing Bicycle, Chaos). Yea, I agree, the movie gets better everytime I watch it, it's one quality movie

Yeah yess, another fan! No, actually I haven't seen that movie, but tomorrow I'mm definitely renting it(the storyline sounds so good). I'm also trying to see PCU

And what did I watch today for the umpteenth time???? Why "Lost in Translation" of course. Big Grin Still love the scenes and the music when she visits Kyoto. Noticed a few of the goofs but found looking for them too distracting. Shake Head
