Hi, im interested in true-to-life romance stories/subplots. I don't know much about how people in Japan act so i would like some suggestions of dramas that have a pretty accurate portrayal. From what i've seen in dramas there's a lot of cheezy i love you forever between people who barely know each other. In these dramas there doesn't seem to be people just looking to hook up ever. Are less serious relationships uncommon in japan or are only serious relationships portrayed in media?

With the exception of the first episode, I think Over Time might be more true-to-life than some of the newer dramas. Others I can think of are:

Itsuka Mata Aeru
Koi wo nan nen sundemasu ka?

Alrighty, the dramas I was following are all done. Still watching Saru Lock but I need something else to watch. Please recommend something good, also please check out my drama list and judge from the type of dramas I like. You can perfectly tell that I'm into "new" type of dramas, young actor/actress etc. People over at this website helped me before and I'm sure they will help again. Thanks in advance. Smile

P.S.: Genre I'm lookin' for uhhh let see... School-life, Lifestyle, Romance/Comedy, Crime/Mystery.

Thank you! Smile

Hi ik0n,
While not exactly new, Odoru Daisousasen is a must see if you like crime series. It was first broadcast in 1997, and I think they're working on a third movie to be released sometime next year. It is, I'd say, primarily character driven, has very interesting characters and stories as well as first class comedy. It's one of those series that you come away from feeling very, very happy and satisfied.

Cheers,
Nils

The Kuitan series: crime/mystery + food + comedy = fun. Victory! Peace!

Hey,
Just joined the site!
I need a recomendation for a good drama. I just finished Taiyou no Uta and am now in the mood for a little romance. I'm not into super "teen" dramas. My favorite romance dramas are Long Vacation, Majou no Jouken, Hotaru no Hikari, Love Shuffle, H2, among others.

Thanks w00t!

It's coming up on that time of year again, so I'd recommend you add Last Christmas to your "must watch" list.

My girlfriend and I just started watching Love Shuffle, so we'll see if she gets any crazy ideas. Sweat

hey guy's. need a bit of help here Smile

I adore comedy, romance, school life, slice of life those sort of jdramas but i am open to trying new things. Some of the dramas i have seen and loved are all versions of HYD, hana kimi both types, devil beside you, why why love, bull fighting.... and loads more in my list in my profile. I am really looking for a drama which is filled with romance, comedy and those gripping moments where you dont know if you want to cry or just throw something at the computer in frustration. Smile

Off the top of my head...

1. From you avatar and siggy, I can see you're a KT fan (Mr Green), so have you given ANEGO a try? Jin's in it. Naughty Overall not a very GOOD drama, but the female lead (Shinohara Ryoko) is both funny AND gorgeous, and she's the one who carries the whole drama. Jin does nothing more than look cute (hehe), but he does have chemistry with the female lead (it's a love triangle, by the way). And the older woman/younger man dynamic set in the workplace milieu produces some interesting situational comedy. Not my personal fave rom-com by a mile, but it IS Jin's only straight rom-com, so... Victory! Peace!

Romance: B+
Comedy: B
"Gripping moments...": C+ (the second half of the drama gets rather serious and a bit tedious)

2. Now for that *other* dude in your avatar... hehe The only rom-com Kame's done is 1-POUND GOSPEL, the one where he plays a pro boxer in love with a nun (riiight... only in Jdoramaland, lol). Totally slapstick treatment, but Kame surprised me by doing good comedy, so I'd still recommend it. Sweat

Romance: B-
Comedy: B+
"Gripping moments...": C- (the drama's very light and breezy, nothing "gripping" here Shake Head)

http://jdorama.com/drama.1254.htm

3. LUNCH QUEEN is a charming rom-com set in a restaurant, and the two male leads (especially the younger one) are incredibly good-looking. Nut All of the characters are memorable and engaging, and I really enjoyed watching this. Food + love + familial piety (lol) = Lunch Queen yay! Dancing

Romance: A-
Comedy: A
"Gripping moments...": B (it's a love triangle to ze bitter end, lol)

http://jdorama.com/drama.606.htm

4. HOTARU NO HIKARI - A must-see! Thumbsup A most unconventional love triangle, and you're sure to love the heroine to pieces. One of my fave rom-coms by far. It shows you that love can creep up on you when you least expect it to. Mr Green

Romance: A
Comedy: A
"Gripping moments...": A (you won't really know who ends up with whom until the very end, and you'll be screaming "choose HIM!!! choose HIM!!!" while tearing your own hair out, lol. of course, I'm not telling which guy I rooted for... Victory! Peace!)

http://jdorama.com/drama.1192.htm

5. PROPOSAL DAISAKUSEN - YamaPi in time-travel mode to win his girl back. Not my favorite YamaPi drama (it's draggy and repetitive in some parts), but it's mildly entertaining, and with an interesting will-changing-the-past-make-a-significant-dent-on-the-future? treatment.

Romance: B
Comedy: B
"Gripping moments...": B+ (you stick with it because you want to know if YamaPi's zipping back and forth through time will prove successful... Puppy Dog Eyes)

You seem to like mystery, therefore I would recommend Gonzo, Odoru Daisousasen and Unfair.
Since you liked Summer Snow, check out Home Drama, a very touching story with the same lead actor.

And since I mentioned it in another thread just now, Yasashii Jikan, absolutely wonderful, slow but wonderful.
