Miyuki (Yoshino Kimura) expected her ideal of marriage to be realised. Her groom as an up-and-coming at a big construction firm and his family ran an old well-known restaurant. They wouldn't have to live with his family and anyway, they seemed to like her. However, her ideal came crashing down as incident after incident befalls Miyuki. Just as she is about to walk down the aisle, her soon-to-be husband's company orders him overseas. She bids him farewell in her wedding dress.
Then, Miyuki's mother-in-law dies suddenly and Miyuki has to take over responsibility for running the household. Then her father-in-law and only ally, Masakichi (Koh Hashizume), falls ill leaving Miyuki alone and helpless. He recovers but perhaps because of his illness, becomes very selfish causing Miyuki's brother-in-law, Satoru (Goh Morita), to be always sullen and her sister-in-law, Kazuko (Miyoko Asada), comes and goes as she pleases. And then there is the staff of the restaurant like Shinsuke (Masahiko Nishimura). What kind of family can Miyuki make of this idiosyncratic lot?
