Future cell phones will have as much memory as a high-performance computer

NEC Electronics, working jointly with Elpida Memory and Oki Electric, has developed novel packaging technology that will allow cell phones and other portable devices to be equipped with as much memory as a high-performance computer. The new technology places eight memory chips and one controller chip in a vertical stack, with three-dimensional (3D) connections between the chips, providing enough memory for demanding high-definition video and high-speed 3D graphics applications in a package slim enough for cell phones and portable game players. The key feature of the new technology is the way that chips in the stack are connected. Each chip has more than 1,000 pins on each side. The pins are connected to polysilicon electrodes built into the chips themselves, vertically piercing the chips from top to bottom. The chips are then connected to each other by high-density micro bumps spaced only 50 micrometers (µm) apart

Just as I thought.

Apple = Overpriced Innovation.

Those prices are acceptable, but the storage size is bit disappointing. You'd expect them to make an ipod WITH smartphone capabilities. Instead they focused on the smartphone part, with OS etc, neglecting the ipod part. 8gig isn't a whole lot to us spoiled ipod owners. (and I don't mean you nano or mini owners ;p)

IMO the price is bit steep if you look at it that way.

My current smartphone, the Mio A701 (which was selling well over $650 when I bought it) does everything the Ipod phone can, and more. (namely built-in GPS for navigation)

but for real, I hope the back isn't anything like the ipod - a cover would make this phone ugly.

I cant even put mp3s on my phone. I only can use midis! And plus, I dont have the cable to transfer so basically, I have to sign up for the internet to get them sent to me :beaten: And the phone is a fairly new Samsung black slider..
