Minna-san hello. Merry Christmas!
Simone, I'll try to watch Kouhaku on Dec.31 since I get NHK but its not a clear transmission. I hope it will be clear that night.
Elaine, loved reading the postings here on why SMAP can't go to JE countdown but stay with Kouhaku. Still haven't had time to order any of the cds my laptop is acting up and my server sucks. But in January I will change server so it should be ok and I can download. Kakkooii.Went to a party last night and someone there has actually heard about Takuya Kimura because she watched Engine in China and she thinks Takuya is hot!!!!! So happy!!!!

More news on Takuya's best actor nomination which he turned down.

-the Japanese Academy Awards were announced with Yoji Yamada's LOVE AND HONOR hitting 12, SUITE DREAMS in at 11 and HULA GIRLS at 10. But the star of LOVE AND HONOR, Takuya Kimura, turned down his "Best Actor" nomination. His manager, the agency Johnny & Associates, gave the weird explanation that it didn't "want to put him in a position of competing with other actors for the prize." Uh, okay.

Yoji Yamada's "Love and Honor" scores record equalling nods for Japan Academy Awards

TOKYO -- Helmer Yoji Yamada's smash drama "Love and Honor" was tops Wednesday with 12 noms for the 30th Japan Academy Awards, but Takuya Kimura, who starred as the blind samurai in the period hit, has turned down his actor nom.
According to a Japan Academy spokesman, talent shop Johnny & Associates, which reps the pop star-turned-thesp, rejected Kimura's nom after a week of negotiations, saying it didn't "want to put him in a position of competing with other actors for the prize."

Johnny's, known for mass-manufacturing young male talent hyphenates, has a longstanding policy of not participating in music biz contests and awards. Its rejection of a Japan Academy nom is a first, however.

Kimura is a member of the pop group SMAP and has been a TV drama megastar for more than a decade.

The 12 nominations for "Love and Honor" equal the record for a live-action pic.

Comedy "Suite Dreams" received 11 noms and dramedy "Hula Girls" took 10.

Noms are made by the 4,400 Academy members in a total of 15 categories, including picture, director, actor and actress. Awards ceremony will be held Feb. 16 in Tokyo.

In the 29-year history of the Japan Academy Awards, several individuals have rejected noms, including Akira Kurosawa, who turned down a director nod for "Kagemusha" in 1980, citing scheduling conflicts, and Ken Takakura, who rejected an actor nom in 2002 for drama "Hotaru," saying he wanted to make way for younger actors.

Kazunari Ninomiya, who has earned some Oscar buzz with his turn as a baker-turned-solider in Clint Eastwood's "Letters From Iwo Jima," is a Johnny's talent as well. Firm has not said what it will do if he scores an Academy Award nomination.

Smap has been appearing in Kouhaku for more than 10 years since debuted. So, it's normal for them to perform in Kouhaku, plus it's a great honour to be invited to Kouhaku. In the past 1980's, Kouhaku has rating more than 80%, that's like almost the whole Japanese citizens are watching the show on new Year eve. Even my family knew about the show since last time, Kouhaku is a great event!!! But, the rating has been dropped in recent years, especially 2004 where Smap was absent in that show. But each time Smap appearance manage to pulled out the highest rating every year when they preform, like last year when they sang triangle the rating was more than 47%!!!! (In the past I think higher, like 54%) That's almost half of Japan population(about 60 million people) is watching Smap in Kouhaku!!!

So why go to Johnny's Countdown concert when they have millions of people sitting in front of the TV watching Smap?!! Plus, they don't have the time to go too, you might able to argue that why TOKIO can manage to go to the Johnny's Countdown but Smap won't go? TOKIO rushes to the Countdown after performing in Kouhaku(in the middle of the show). Kouhaku always put Smap performing at very last (near countdown to 12am), they save the best for last... So they can't simply rush to the Johnny's Countdown where it starts at about 11pm. Another reason, Smap won't go to any Johnny's related activities!!! Smap is already able to decide their jobs and concerts on their on, the Jimusho can't control them much anymore...

Seriously, if Smap is going to attend the Johnny's Countdown concert, all the tickets must be already grabbed by Smap fans before V6 or Kattun fans get to see their idols :hehe:

When I rewatch the Kouhaku last year, Nakai was standing beside Yamamoto Koji(MC) and he kept on talking nonstop before Rip Slyme performance. Yamamoto Koji hardly had the chance to say anything at all beside Nakai.... (I was wondering why Nakai talked as if the show was his) It's hard to get Nakai stop talking in front of TV afterall....

woah.. smap power!!!! Smap chose the right choice to go kouhaku! haha instead of the darn JE countdown =)
i LOVE SMAP!
