To quote someone: "You just can't make some people happy." ;)

My other HDs are ATA100, so I'm not too heartbroken about that.

Outpost and Fry's are never the same price....and Fry's will not honor Outpost prices, even though they are owned by the same company. Stupid, utterly stupid.

can YOU connect to the router from your laptop?

I didn't know that myself until I asked someone at the store. That's when I nearly lost it.

that's the thing..

the router can't connect to any computer.. i tried setting it up with both laptops at home (cause stupid desktop is acting stupid) and it won't work.

Do you use DSL or cable internet?
25 Mar 2006, 02:04 #2092
DSL.

:(

and what's the deal with firmware? i went to the router site and there was a lot of discussion with regards to firmware???
25 Mar 2006, 02:05 #2093
My guess is that you are using the Linksys G router, right?
25 Mar 2006, 02:08 · edited #2094
reset the router and connect with a cable, if it still doesn't work then, run it over with your car.

also, try going to the DSL setup page and see if the connection is authenticated to one MAC address, earthlink's does that and you need to release the connection before you connect the router.

-----------------
Linksys = poo

IMHO.

I haven't had problems with my Linksys.

There is a way for the router to clone the MAC address of the computer that works. I know that my cable internet only wants the MAC that was used to register. So I had to clone it to the router.

I'm surprised there isn't a setup wizard that walks you through the process. You did remember to add your username/password to the PPPoE section, right?

I went through 3 routers in less than a year. one just up and died after 3 months, the replacement had 2 port fry, third one got so hot it tripped my surge protector.

And it's not the power line, my Netgear is connected to the same plug and it's been fine for the last 2 years.

You don't have to go that far.

On a linksys?? It's at [code:1]http://192.168.1.1/[/code:1].
Default username is blank (nothing, nada, empty), password: admin. (Please change this as well).
