Hi everyone I seem to be having trouble downloading from gigashares. So what happens is when i try to download from http://www.gigeshare.com/sharelist/DramaBoy/ but everytime i click on the continuation link, it defaults back to the main page. I heard from someone that it was because of their firewall blocking it. So, i was wondering if anyone knows how to change the firewall so that it would allow gigashares to download? I'm not very good w/ computers, my computer is automatic and everything was pre-installed on it when i got it so i have no clue where to begin. :puppydog:

If you have ZoneAlarm or Norton something, that might be it. They sometimes blocks stuff and don't tell you. It's kind of tough to know without knowing what kind of firewall you have.

From their help section, it seems the problem is because something blocks the refferer url in your browser. It could be the browser settings or a lot of other things. They say it could work, if you use a download manager.

1. I cannot download anything from gigeshare.com?
Your browser must pass the refferer url, otherwise it will be impossible to download the file. Please also enable scripting. Another solution is to try an disable your firewall or other security related programs. The only other option is to use a download manager, read the answer to the question below to do so.

2. Is it possible to use a download manager?
Yes, it is possible to use a download manager if it supports refferer url. Copy the download link and enter it into the download manager, and on the refferer url copy the url of the current page, where the download link resides and paste it into the refferer url. This should let you use the download manager.

I use Free Download Manager. I don't know if it's going to work in this case, but it may be worth a try.

My computer security is Noron and i've tried to browse around to try and turn the firewall off but have no luck. I've downloaded the FreeMangerDownload that you posted (thanks for that!) when i tried to use it to download, even though it says that it's downloading but it takes forever to download. Also, the program didn't work when i opened it up so i had to change the proxy to get it to download, did you do the same? If anyone knows how to turn of the firewall of the Noron Security i would REALLY appreciate your HELP! :fingerscrossed:

P.S. - Does anyone know what a RAR and Bin file is and how do you join and play it?

you can open a RAR file with a program called WINRAR and for the bin file try daemon tools.

RAR files are compessed/archive files, similar to .zip files. Do a Google search for WinRAR.

.bin files are disc image files - usually if you make a disc image with a certain program (don't remember which, but Nero recognises them) you get a .bin and a .cue file. The .bin is the image (large file) and the .cue is a small file that tells the program what's in the .bin file.

4GB USB thumb drive for 14.99 from Tiger Direct

TigerDirect is offering a jaw-dropping deal, a Power Up SpeedDrive 4GB USB 2.0 portable flash drive for $14.99. But yes, there is a catch, you'll have to fill out and mail in two rebate forms, each for $30, and don't forget that $6.99 for shipping. But still, $22 for a 4GB USB 2.0 thumb drive? That's $5.50 a gig

not bad, even if you consider you probably wont get one of the rebates back.

yeah i thought it was a good price for those looking for real portable flash drives...for that much storage capacity it's pretty cheap, huh? would be great for a student or professional that needs to back up a large amount of data

No problem. :D

Usually you can disable the firewall by right-clicking the icon in the system tray and selecting disable. It will be active again the next time you boot.

For rar file, there's also the free software 7-zip link. For bin files, most, if not all, CD and DVD burning softwares will be able to open them. If you don't want to, you can use a virtual dvd-rom software like daemon tools link.

If you are downloading movies, a bin file could be a VCD or SVCD. I think media player can open them.
