Well, vicky20, hopefully you enjoy your Internet service. You should find those bad people and stick Sousuke on 'em. Trust me, the dude will never give up. :victory:

I figured I'd be getting one eventually, but my recent J-Drama and Ueno Juri-related movie downloading has me low on hard drive space, so I bit and ordered a 500GB external hard drive. I had planned to get one later on, but I realize it'd be pointless to get a video card first when I don't have much space for videos or games to use that video card with.

Now, I just hope I don't end up wiping out my hard drives like before

What is Sousuke? :bonk: I always enjoy my net service since its one of the only good things from were i am  Thanks for the cheers! And i always try to download stuff like games, movies, jdramas, as fast and as much as i can so the hard drive space is an ever-present problem. I have tons of DVD's full of stuff i took from the net, though they are unreliable cuz many don't work anymore :banghead:

I believe he's referring to the DV guru in Last Friends.

:say_yes:

Vicky20, hard drive space becomes a problem for just about any J-Drama fan. I have DVDs but I figure eventually over time the discs will become unreadable. I try to keep 'em in good condition, but you just never know, so I tend to keep stuff on my hard drive as well.

Get externals. That's what I do. Burn to DVD and back up on externals. That way, if the discs get ruined, you have the files. If the externals die, you have the DVDs.

If both die, you're one unlucky dude. But chances of that are rare.

Yeah, I ordered an external one to use. I thought about an internal one, but the portability of an external drive won me over. I usually go home about once a month, so I can always bring my music and movies with me to share with family and friends. Backup wasn't given much of a thought honestly, but I'll probably be keeping my music and some dramas on the external as backup.

The chances of losing data from hard drive failure and disc reading failure scares me. Losing data has happened to me before, and the discs I used to save most of my things are about 6-7 years old now, so I just hope I don't lose anything before I get my external drive :fingerscrossed:

O yikes! That's a scary thought for me as well! Let's hope everything works out for you!

As long as the external hard drives works as it should, I'll be alright. :victory: The important thing is getting my music collection backed up. Well, that and the many pictures of Juri-chan :victory:

What is the problem when turn on the PC and loading the OS and then the monitor suddenly turn to no display... can't start windows and log on to it... but it is fine if I start it in SAFE MODE ...

Is it the OS problem ? or hardware ?

Sounds like maybe the video resolution is set to something that your monitor can't handle, therefore the screen is blank... In safe mode, the resolution is something like 640x480, which all modern monitors can handle.

You should try setting the resolution to something conservative, like 800x600 or 1024x768 in Safe Mode, then reboot and see if everything's okay... :)

I think that isn't anything wrong with the resolution of the monitor, if that the case, it should has a "OUT OF RANGE" message appear before the screen turning into black ... :(

Not necessarily, depends on the age of the monitor. If the resolution is not the problem then you have a program, virus or anything else like that; that starts along with windows but doesn't start in safe mode. In that case you have to realize what that thing is and delete it in safe mode. If that doesn't work then wait for the reply of someone smarter! LOL I just said what i think the problem might be but i'm no expert.

How about if it turning to BLUE SCREEN with rows of sentences ... ?

is it hardware effects ?

actually I'm doing work that related with computer technical and so i wantto know more knowledges about it... any good recommend sites/forums ? :D

For security, Security focus is the best one. If there's going to have buffer overflow for a vacuum cleaner, it's going to be posted there first. :hehe:

For hardware, Tom's Hardware is nice. They have guides, reviews and stuff.:)

If you've got a blue screen with text, you've got a major OS problem...

IIRC, most BSOD were cause by Nvidia drivers on XP and Vista. Upgrading those to a new version usually works for me. :)

In case, do i need to reinstall OS ?

Not sure.

The fact that you can get into Safe Mode with no problems seems to say it's purely video related...

If you have an old video card, you might try swapping that in place of your existing one and trying things out... :fingerscrossed:

my f@ckin laptop's LCD broke! and i don't have a f@ckin $300 to repair it. i'm a highschool student for god's sake.

anyway, i'm planning on buying an ordinary LCD instead, so kind of an external thing since i never really carry my laptop. anyone have a good brad recommendation? not the expensive brands like Sony or LG, but normal priced brands with OK quality. i saw an acer wide 17" for $178, is that a bargain?
