Ain't it the truth.

Their beta testing doesn't seem to catch the bugs that the general public finds...

Are you kidding? Until the 1st service pack arrives, the initial public release IS a beta test! :hehe:

I myself prefer Fedora Core 3, a Linux distribution. However, it is only deemed 'more stable' than Windows because Linux is not as popular than Windows. If, say, Macs become more popular than PC's, then you will see more vulnerabilities of Macintoshes exposed and exploited.

As with Windows, Linux and Macs have had serious vulnerabilites. But news of such don't really spread too well, because only a little group of people are affected, when compared to the Windows crowd. When a Windows vulnerability is exploited, all attention is drawn to it because majority of all people are on Windows.

That'll never happen. ;)

Good point.

Microsoft is the software company that people love to hate.

Hey that's cool, me too.

But I do think there are a couple of fundamental design reasons why it is generally more stable. Although it's moot as to whether it's more secure out of the box, I think it can be made so.

Anyway, I love it. A day without Linux is like a day without sunshine.

Hai. It's because they are a big monopoly, which is not a good thing as far as the law goes. I'm not a big fan of Microsoft myself, and soon to join MS on my hatelist is Google and Adobe.

Google for slowly monopolizing the Internet (search, google groups, electronic mail, the Google Toolbar, translation, etc) and Adobe for acquiring Macromedia to kill competition.

This reminds of something I heard: The only hackproof computer is the one that is unplugged. :hehe:

In other computer news, I think some of my dramas were corrupted on my drive. I hope nothing is lost, that it was just a finicky Windows.

Heh.

As long as you're not connected to the 'net you should be hack-free, ne?

You're running XP, right?

Hard to believe, but Win2K SP4 has been really stable at home and at work for me... Not perfect, but stable.

Yup, XP with all the latest updates. I moved the drive from my external into the case, and found half the directories were corrupt (so says Windows). So I plan to return it to the external case. If it's fine there, I'm going into DVD burn mode. I just hope my burner will be able to handle it.

I'd run Linux too if it weren't for the fact that my hard drive partitions are NTFS. I've read that there are still compatibility issues with mounting NTFS drives on Linux, so I'll probably hold out on it for a little while until I can backup my data and reformat my partitions to FAT32.

If you reformat your partitions to FAT32, you won't be allowed to have a file size larger than 4GB, which may be a problem if your manipulating video files or similar....

I usually don't do that kind of stuff so I don't have to worry about that. :)

with 95% pc users having windows OS... it is gonna take my grandchilds generation if we start today !!! .. anyhow apple has decided to focus only as a niche 5% high end machine provider in the future unlike what they tried 2 decades back .... :beaten: :beaten:

the best thing of macs is that because there are so few users .... hackers just dont make viruses for it :hehe:

I was into software development sometime back ... and one thing is for sure .. any software always have some flaws and the bigger the system the bigger the chances !!! unfortunately ..

>4GB .... u mean individual files or the size of a disk partition !!!

cause with FAT32 only the C drive is limited to 4GB .. the rest can be whatever... right !!!

Too true. Now if the computers could just remove the stupid humans from the equation, everything would be perfect .... uh oh!

the biggest problem with software developement is that one tries to add more and more features as one develops it.. and most of the time it is out of the project scope .. leading to mismatch between different teams and loopholes in the end !! ..

I don't want anyone putting loopholes in my end. :nut:
