Holding off on ordering a video card, as the next generation video cards are due to be announced at Comuptex at the end of May.

Probably will order a 74 GB Raptor HDD, as I want fast boot times. Maybe one of those new 6x DL DVD burners from Pioneer.

I've read lately that Western Digital isn't up to par as what it used to be. Here's the tiering (that I've heard) as far as HDD selection goes:

Top: Seagate, Hitachi
Middle: Western Digital, etc
Low: Maxtor, IBM

Well, I guess as long as it's not a Maxtor. Good thing IBM isn't making anymore HDDs. But I'm still kinda worried that they sold it to Hitachi and that might effect their products. Anyone own an IBM "Deathstar"? I had two. :hehe:

I've had a 60GB Deskstar and it's been fine since 2002... :)

What was that? I remember some IBM disks from a long time ago that would pretty much die exactly 5 years from their manufacture date. They would start making horrible noises, and then croak. It was ugly.

I'm not quite sure if it was the 60GXP series or the 75GXP series. I'm definetely sure it's one of those. The 120GXP ones are safe, I think.

And yes, the make awful noises when they're about to die. It's a really high pitched whirring sound that cuts through anything and everything.

generally if unattended the temp folders eat a lot of space.

Yea go Seagate Cheetah's! Definately the way to go. I actually like Maxtor. I have a 250gb HD and it works fine. No problems whatsoever so far. Maxtor is slow and cheap and they also are my parent's customers so I gotta support them. That and they've got 50 comps in their company that they're using which are made by yours truly :hehe: :hehe:

Isn't WD and IBM the same company? One owns the other so yea...

Yeah, I've got a 160GB and it's fine, too *knocks on wood*

I don't think so.

Really? Ahhh I thought I heard that somewhere. I do run a WD HD also and it's been like 3 years and everything seems fine with that too :D

HAHAHA, I actually used that for a month while my 107 was getting repaired. I liked it a lot but I did get a few bad burns from it. Didn't really get the same feel from it as I did the 107 so I looked into some reviews for 16x burners and seems like NEC has the best one out.

A buck a piece? :hehe: :hehe:

This is kind of funny, I put in my prodisc 8x and I have an option for 12x burning  I did 2 burns at 8x and are fine. These were copying, not direct DVD to DVD though. I think I'm going to see if that 12x is a hoax or for real now :hehe: :hehe:

That's not bad, huh? Are we talking quantities of 1000? :hehe:

If it does work, that's a 50% burn speed increase over the 8X, so we're talking about four minutes or so...

Way cool.

Holy crap! It worked! WOW! So either NEC really loves prodisc or it does this to every dvd. I wonder what it will do with those ritek.

I'm previewing the DVD now and it looks fine. Of course ultimately these go to Kevin so he's the guinea pig :hehe: :hehe:

I just need a stronger graphic card lol. I can live with having only a 2.6 GHz and 1500 MB RAM, but it's a pain when you can play Doom 3 with full details only at 800*600 lol *hugs the 160 GB HD* though... it's scary when you download Musashi and it takes more than 30 GBs in the end lol

Heh. It wouldn't be the first time: he was my guinea pig for my first burns on the DVR-107. :hehe:
