What's the best anti-virus software available for computers? I kind of need some right about now and erm....how about adware software too ?

If I can get them online for a decent price, please give me some web addresses as well .

 That must have cost a lot!

Anyway, for free antivirus for home use, there is Avast and AVG. I use both and they work fine.

Shoujo, check out Avast! Antivirus (http://www.avast.com)... It's free, has automatic updates, and it's pretty highly rated by Consumer Reports...

Did I mention it was free?? :D

Whoa, new one? I'll check it out too.

Thanks, bmw.

Thanks, bmw.

Don't think it's new, but the fact that it's free (you have to register, big deal) and apparently works pretty well sold me.

Did I mention it was free? :beaten: :bonk: :hehe:

Is it okay to run two different adaware programs?

I ask this because I am aware that running two anti virus software programs isn't recommended.

That's fine since the adaware programs usually don't run all the time, unlike anti-virus progs which constantly watch your system for incoming infections (at least it should).

I've been using Avast for more than 2 years and never had virus or problems.
The updates are fast, sometimes 3 times a day, but small download (2 ~ 50kb).

I disabled the other program though. I think it has an "I" icon in the system tray. I didn't like the constant scanning.

Have you tried out the new Microsoft AntiSpyware program?

It's in beta and free at the moment... It needs to have IE6 installed, though.

CR seems to think it works pretty well. And it's free.
