I'm thinking of buying a Mac (probably around the time Leopard comes out because I'm not too sure if I want to be running OS X, Rosetta and all that with the new Intel Core Duo....just because I don't trust new stuff),
....

I agree, I'd wait til at least the 2nd revision to the new Intel machines in terms of hardware. If you dont want to run Rosetta, then you'll have to wait until ALL the apps you want to run include the Universal Binarys, or have moved to the Intel specific instruction set.

1. I use an app called SDP to get streaming media (like those 30 sec commercials on J-sites), do you know if Macs have any similar media stream catchers? If so, can they catch MMS that's wma/wmv and convert to aac/mov?

Other than WMP or Real?

2. A lot of websites use this DRM thing that prevents users of OS X from enjoying multimedia, is there any other option to enjoy music vids etc. w/o PAYING on iTunes?

There are ways around EVERYTHING, and none of that BS, sony installs spyware without your consent worries.

3. Is there a Real Alternative for Mac?

Real Player? Dont use those types of media, but Real player works fine on my machine.

4. For G5 users: Is the iSight webcam compatible with other chat progs outside of iChat (because I think that requires a .Mac account! >_<)? It'd be nice to use it with MSN Messenger or Yahoo! (even though Yahoo! never seems to accomodate Mac OS X....only 9, which is weird).?

the iSight is way overpriced. A logitech webcam is cheaper and works the same.

Thanks for your help. I have other questions about data DVDs, etc., but I've already asked 4, hahaha ^^;;

you could probably get most of your answers here.

Thanks for your advice & link KRIM...

BTW, for iSight, the new G5 and Intel Core Duo come WITH the built-in iSight webcams. There's no way in hell I'd buy anything like that from Apple--isn't everything else already expensive enough? *lol*

Real Alternative is the "alternative" to using Real Player--gives you the codec possibility to play Real media without installing all of their crap.

Thing is, the fool didn't think he caused the problem, even though once we unplugged his hub, everything was restored. :shakehead: :smack:

seems someone ordered a 2.2TB NAS for our department to backup all our data.
19 Jan 2006, 06:12 #1847
nice :drooling:

I might buy a NAS case for the 250GB....but I would be afraid of storing stuff on it......and it's nowhere near 2.2TB.
19 Jan 2006, 06:25 #1849
well, get another 9 of those 250's, use 2 as parity drives and you'll be up to speed

too bad i can't store my doramas on it.. :hehe:

So far, it looks good, except I didn't fully configure it correctly. So I can't add new torrents right now, but I'll fix that once I get home later.

It works for me. The only thing is the computer that I use to access the webpage remotely needs to have Java installed.
28 Jan 2006, 01:21 #1852

Is dydns.org configured on your computer? If so, it needs to be on your router. Most routers have a setting somewhere for that.
28 Jan 2006, 05:32 #1856
Or trying going to the dyndns website. It should see the external IP there.
