I rarely watch Kdramas. However, our local ch 18 which has Asian dramas from various Asian countries, had Prince's First Love showing when I turned it on a couple of years ago. I was immediately attracted by Sung Yuri's beauty and watched the last 4 episodes. I then had to have the entire drama which I got. Found out she was part of Fin.K.L. and bought their tour concert. Now that she is doing drama exclusively I'm totally addicted to her and have to watch everything she comes out in. :puppydog:
I'm the same way about Kuninaka Ryoko who became my addiction during the broadcast of Churasan. :puppydog:
Since I'm a connoiseur of charismatic females, it's natural to be smitten by these two super talented drama actors.

^ah, I see. I wouldn't call myself a fan of hers, though her acting has improved from her earlier works. Her acting still gets highly criticized, though. Personally, I feel she's a target because of her pop-singer background. Few critics want to give her the benefit of the doubt, of her being a serious actress because there are so many singers-turned-actors in Korea that just plain terrible at acting.
She was on a variety show last month and talked about her Fin.K.L days:
Yuri was discovered on the street so she was merely chosen on her looks. After telling Kang Ho Dong she sang an S.E.S. song for the actual audition, he asked her to sing it again. The singer-turned-actress then said, "Don't you know? I used to lip sync!"
While walking, someone told her that he wanted her to be in the "next S.E.S.," and at first this made Sung Yuri and her friends suspicious but after finding out that Sechskies was in the same company, she went to see Sechskies.
On this episode, Yuri talked about her fear of fangirls and her hurt feelings about her criticized acting skills. When she would go on stage with her Fin.K.L members at an event where other boy bands were there, all the fan girls of those boy groups would turn their back on Fin.K.L while they performed.
One time, Sung Yuri was in the bathroom and she ran into fan girls. The fan girls called Sung Yuri such horrible names she couldn't even defend herself. She was afraid of getting attacked so she just left. As a young girl, things like that hurt her and stayed with her.
As she talked about being criticized on her acting, Yuri shed some tears. She said, "I could deal with people telling me I was a bad actor. I couldn't deal with people telling me I didn't try hard."
On the episode, she revealed her thoughts on whether she has a split personality or not. She said, "I think I have a split personality. I don't act like the angel (fairy concept) I'm supposed to act like. I think that image was made when I looked very innocent during my Fin.K.L days."
She also talked about her relationship issues while she was an idol. "Us Fin.K.L members had no problem sharing our relationship problems with each other. Ok Ju Hyun helped me so much with one of my relationships."

Thanks. That's a very interesting article.
I just watched portions of One Fine Day again. I noticed several bit players whose acting was questionable. It became clear to me in the scenes when they interacted with Sung Yuri, how much she has progressed in her role interpretations. IMO she will be one of the giants of the Korean screen. She has that same subtle ability of expressing so much with just a shifting of her eyes or tilt of her head that makes KimuTaku such a genius.
Admitedly it is not fully developed yet... but watch for it and you'll see what I mean. That is what separates the wanna bees from the truly great.
I think I finally realized who she reminds me of.... none other than Elizabeth Taylor in the 50s.

I finished "Sons of Sol Pharmacy House" (aka "My Too Perfect Sons") and as expected... I'm a little lost as to what to watch next.
The show wasn't one of those glossy, mega buck extravaganzas. And the plot was pretty simple. A mom trying to get her 4 adult sons married off.
But the characters, the actors, the small, human, interpersonal stories just meshed so well... and were usually so funny... the 54 episode story just went by in a flash.
Because I knew anything I watched next would suffer by comparison, I've been rewatching a bunch of Shin Eun Gyung movies. "My Wife Is A Gangster" 1 & 2. "Bystander" And I even went back and watched some more of "Bad Couple" one of her romantic comedy series. She is, of course, wonderful in the show... but the show is about as poorly written as anything I've ever seen.
Doesn't matter though. It's a trip to watch Shin play the pretty young thing, instead of the toughest guy in Asia for once.

Shin Eun Gyung is a great actress, one of my favorites. Yeah, Bad Couple started off good, but quickly lost its way and delved into absurdity.

If you're looking for another weekend show, out of the current ones, I would recommend Smile, You. I've been completely captivated by Lee Min Jung in this show. Her many facial expressions are a charm of the show. She also has good chemistry with her co-lead Jung Kyung Ho, who himself isn't too bad. The show is enjoyable to watch imo.

Wasnt she in ONly You too?
I really liked that drama.
No she wasn't, if you are talking about the one starring Han Chae Young, which I thought was a waste of time.

A "Week End Show"? I'm pretty new to Korean TV, is that a particular genre of TV show?

Well weekend shows tend to be light-hearted, family oriented. Think Sons of Sol Pharmacy House, which you saw. Typically weekend shows won't deal with more darker themes such as adultery, murder, revenge, etc.
Ok Here goes. Finished Swallow The Sun with the Engrishy subs. Most of the dialogue in the Engrishy subs episodes went over my head.... but I got the gist of it. In all honesty I can only give this an 8/10 and here's why. The first 3rd and last 3rd of the drama were fine with lots of action and plot progression. It's the middle third that dragged. I suppose that's to be expected in just about any drama with 25 or more episodes. Especially since each episode is over 1 hour long.
The director in addition must be a Hitchcock wannabee and in order to fill the middle 3rd, he used too much time having all the principals starring off into the distance.... Now normally that's a powerful device in building up suspense with the dramatic music building to a crescendo as we can see the wheels of the character's mind turning over various nefarious ways to accomplish their ends. But just a little too much and it becomes onerous.
On the other hand Sung Yuri naturally kept it alive for me.. :nut:
I thought after One Fine Day and Prince's First Love she could not become more beautiful.... but she did. It's part of her growth as an actor that she displays increasingly so much more of her inner light in sensitive scene portrayals. You can see how comfortable and self assured she has become in front of the camera. I can almost feel I'm on the set with her watching this growth before my eyes. I've seen the same thing less than a dozen times on sets I worked on.
I'm looking forward to seeing the actual dialogues in the last half of the series when HaruHaru subs are finished.

Ok, but I don't think Shin Eun Gyung was in that either. Speaking of criticized actresses, Kim Hee Sun is one that deserves the criticism. It's probably for the better that she married and semi-retired.
I think the two actresses have a similar look.
The subs for Swallow The Sun arrive about every 2 weeks. Meanwhile STS is showing on Ch18 every Wed and Thur. So I started recording it.
The TV series has subs from Golden something or other which are always perfect English. So now while waiting for HaruHaru subs, I'm trying to sub some episodes by copying the TV subs line by agonizing line using TEMPGEnc DVD author 3. It has a better and easier sub entering facility than Sub Workshop. In fact I simply call up the DVD version that I bought from Hong Kong and go to the episode to sub without worrying about which VOB is which. Then type in the sub at the matching frames from the TV series recording. Oh Ok. I can watch the TV version on my portable DVD player while entering the subs.
It works great albeit a little tedious. So far it's still fun. Well at least for the first 5 lines I've entered so far. Since the TV series will finish next week, I can begin subbing the final episode and work backwards until I meet up with HaruHaru subs.
Also started watching Snow White. Very funny.

Well how about that... I thought the male lead in Snow White looked familiar... and so it's the same guy who plays one of the leads in Swallow The Sun... Lee Wan.
