Crisis at work. Boss pacing the floor like a convict on death row.

In other words, a typical day.

God...why can't customers read? One annoying customer after another kept wanting to use the mailing center even though a sign clearly stated "Due to a shortage of employees, the mailing center won't be open until 10am."

It was 8:10am at the time....

Dept of Homeland security took all mine away. :puppydog:

It took me 5 hours to get to work today, when it would usually be 3. One switching problem on BART that caused a 20 minute delay threw my whole transfer schedule way off. I had to come up with a detour on the fly without an internet connection.

There's no way this would have happened in Japan.

Dang, we problems with a system in Beijing... I'm gonna be a work for a good long while... It's only a little after 6AM over there and the office probably doesn't open until 8AM (5PM local)...

Bleah. :bleh:

It's kinda like having conference calls with folks from India...it's 12.5 hours ahead.

I wouldn't mind it so much if they were at our mercy, but we have to wait for them to wake up and get to work.

So we just twiddle our thumbs in the mean time...

On the plus side, it beats having to actually be there.

Stayed 2-1/2 hours at work only to find out that the dopes in China configured the system incorrectly... User error.

The guys essentially initiated a red alert for this.

Incredible. :grumble:

I hope they get stuck with acoustic modems for another decade or so.

this could be my most posted in thread soon...

idiot strikes again... they decided to use one of the older servers as a file server instead of using one of the production servers as we have been using for the last 5 years.

so last night after everyone left, they mirrored the user directories to the unused servers, "thought up a clever new name for the server" (from the Systems email detailing what was done), file-cabinet is the new name, larger disks and more available CPU to process user requests.

F**KING MORON forgot to give everyone else permission to access the user directories. So no one except him, his wife, brother in law and the Systems admin can access the server. HE forgot to give himself admin access to change the settings, so now we have to wait until 1pm for the SysAdmin to come in and reset the directory permission...

This should cost us about $80,000 in revenue and lost productivity.
4 Aug 2006, 01:10 #2597
OMFG, the moronity continues... he fudges with some settings, and sends a company-wide email for everyone to log off and log back in and "you should be able to access your folder". So everyone stops work and does that. Im doubtful it'll help, and im not stopping in the middle of a project.

So i see on Messenger that everyone is logging out and back in... NOW THEY CAN'T EVEN SEE THE SERVER ANYMORE.

Only the ones that didn't log out and in can see the server still.

I didn't go to work yesterday, but I knew that we were having an inspection. Eeek, I'm glad I avoided that fiasco. But I did work the day before and that was plain old awful. Instead of doing my regular job, I had to clean. And I mean the works, too, like dusting, wiping the conveyer belt, sweeping around the aisle. Took me half an hour to do each lane. *shudder* I felt like I was the janitor. :grumble:

The VP of IT came in, walked into the server room. 2 minutes later came out and everything worked... so simple, no logging in and out.

The other sucks big time. :hehe:
