Well it has to do with the tv schedule. America pretty much operates on a 2 semester bases where you get a lot of the prime time shows starting in October/November and ending in like May. Then there's the summer season etc. In Japan this is broken down into 4 quarters so for ever time slot, there will be 4 different shows shown in that slot where as in America there will be 2. An American season usually consist of like 26 episodes so 2 seasons will be 52. In Japan a season for jdramas is about 11 or sometimes 12 so in a year there will be roughly 44-48 (could be less eps) in one given time slot and that's just about on par. Give or take a few weeks for transition time :D I hope this helps a bit.

I also think the Japanese want stories that end. 10-12 weeks is enough to tell the story (exceptions: Shiroi Kyoto, NHK asadoras, NHK taigas). I can't see dramas in Japan last for as many years as some soaps in the US and still maintain an audience.

no i have not seen that films but i read that a day on the planet is quite an ordinary day, but still these more or less trivial events captures a feeling for the lives of young people today. but nothing really happens.

i am intrested but am looking for somthing more challenging.

Try Brother by and Starring Takashi Beat. It's a Japanese yakuza film and if you like Japanese films and mafia films a bit like Scarface you should like this a lot. Can be picked up on Region 2 dvd as well dirt cheap.

To be honest the list of Japanese films which could be listed is quite endless.

Huzzah! The new Very Very commercial is just out. Go to the link, watch the flash intro, then go to the the "movie" section. Be sure to watch the "making" stills as well. Let the howling begin.
