I've got a Plextor DVD that came with Roxio's MaxPlayer DVD software and it played my region 3 Azumi DVD (YesAsia.com) with no problems.

Thats cool, at least now you don't have to spend money on a player
The region 3 of Azumi 1 is the Korean release isn't it??? Well it doesn't really matter which one you buy if you're just going to buy it to watch the movie. You haven't seen Azumi 1 yet??? If thats the case, if i was in your position, I would wait for Azumi 2 to come out on DVD and see if they have a LE version and buy that along with Azumi 1 :victory: .....but thats just me

Oh the agony, why'd they have to put regions on DVD's anyway, such a hassle :mecry:

To make you spend money on stuff that allows you to play out of region dvds??? Look at it this way, you're spending good money on Aya stuff right??? Well worth it :victory:

So that the correct distributors would get their money. For example I got Kung Fu Hustle, 2046, Oldboy and many other films as asian special edition dvd's long before they were even released theatrically in western countries. Now my money goes to asian distributors istead of anyone who happens to have the rights here where I live. Another thing is the prices. Even with shipping cost added it's much cheaper for me (and for most other people living in western countries) to get HK release than a local release.

And remember that the korean version of Azumi is the international version (cut for 15 minutes). Only the japanese dvd is uncut.

Great stuff and hype over the weekend. I just bought a region-free dvd in Singapore. Sony - US$100. Those who are keen, let me know. I have helped my friends in Japan to buy it too.

It can play any region code. The problem is only that the region code can only be changed 5 times. Then itLs fixed to the last used one.
You can often update the DVD Roms firmware that ignored the region but thatLs not workling with all DVD roms. Especially not with cheap ones and probably not with most Notebook DVD roms.
But maybe DVDgenie, that Phinn already mentioned, will work with your Rom. You can preselect the region for the Player with it and then youLll have no problems anymore

Wow... I just bought one recently brand new for $35... it has great features... supports DTS and Dolby Digital ... and all of the video output components aside from HD...

Ouch... glad that you got some, though... The first region free one I bought a few years ago cost about $140
