I want all of you reading this essay I wrote and what I feel about fans now:
How idols affect Japanese girls and fans alike.

I first took interest in Japanese boy bands, Johnnys Entertainmentcpreferably called Johnnys Juniors, right around 2004. It was because of watching this show called "Gakkou E Ikou" done by one of the senior groups called V6. They seem such a fun group, interesting, and entertaining and I eventually started to love them. But when I first heard their songs, I thought it was cheerfulcbut not really great singers. But I learned that they sing and it made me know the music entertainment of Johnnys. I never thought that liking a Johnny's entertainment can be addicting and alsocI never knew how much it could actually change a person.

This idol loving became an immediate hobby. It was nice to engage on something and to keep me entertained. And it's nice to see pictures and I never felt any thing big about it. And I truly loved them as performers and I thought all of these people out there fans like me, would love them as talents and not just their lookscwell I was totally wrong.

I frequent boards that have fans from the entire world. I thought I could discuss them as performers. Wellcthere are only a few people I can seriously discuss their performances and their wellness as a talent. Most are just too attracted to their looks and not see how they may be and what their purpose for being a JE member. JE is for talents, not just people who are attractive with looks. That defeats the purpose. I want people to recognize their talents and also their lookscbut looks aren't everythingcit's just an accessory of the human body. Not everything goes well having lookscwell maybe better off than some people but if people like them just for their outside and not inside and outside, it shows how much they have no eyes for people and that they are totally blind.

Also, idols work for us fans but some fans don't understand and ruin it for them. That was the case with some groups. They were followed home; thrown trash, put on loud music, hurt other people and them, and distraction. This cause uneasiness for the idols for to continue their jobs. I wouldn't know how they felt but I can understand that no one loves to be stalked. Idolscmake some girls loose common sense so they commit these crimes that are against the law and cause disturbance to people around. And what also was crazy is that these crazy fan girls even followed to US to follow these popular groups to just see them. Girls do these things just to see a regular person who's just known worldwide and is popular. It is unfair and really rude. It makes the girls be hated for what they do and get despised by people who used to love them. Then why do they do that? They are mentally crazy and they need to go see a doctor.

Also idols are targeted towards young girls depending on the age level and it brings a wall to the people who are way older and likes them too. Older women have a harder time liking them because there is soo many young girl fans and they feel scared that they are going to get hurt by them because the older women likes the same idol as the young girls. I think these young girls makes wall and makes people lack access because they are soo possessive and doesn't want people to like the same idols as they do. So it starts to become a bit of age racism when it comes to older women liking idols. Young girls seem to send messages to them that "You're not young like us, you're not supposed to like them." Makes older women uncomfortable and make them afraid to step up to the public and even buy magazines that are for young generations. It shows they need more confidence but younger generations are just building a wall to people who want to like them.

When I read these topics with models with idols, I'm like "They seem to look nice together. Nice photo shoot." And get over with it but man; these crazy fans don't end it with that. They elaborate in an immature way that I got fed up. Taking some posts for examples:

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHAT KIND OF PICS ARE THESE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who is she?! Or maybe i don't want to know who is she !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......................................................

Hmm no i don't imagine Pi in her place....sorry but i imagine ME !!! HAHAHAHAHA

*Thanks for the pics !! HUH ?????? I'm gonna die now..........Watching close these pics Ryo-chan is soooo gorgeous, Hot and beautiful !!!! But i'm not gonna die because of this but THEY ARE HOLDING HANDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHH and they changed presents too......*hands?.......* "

"WADAH!? Who's the girl!? Pfft... *turns evil*

Ack. *throws girl away* ahh..perfect now I can stare at Ryo all I want! LOL!! Thank you very much. Ryo's amazing~"

"nani kore????????~

uwaaaaaaaaa.........
dame! dame! dame!
they holding hands tooooooooooooo!???!?!!!

~~>.<~~"

"OMFG~!!! *&(&#@(*&(*#@~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
**kicks away the anoyying woman**
**stick all uchi pic on her !!!!!!**
UWAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

BUT DAMN~!! RYO IS SOOOO CUTE !!!!!!!1 *pokes*
im so gonna modify the pics with Uchi on it ~!!! nyek nyek nyek !!! XD
thanks for sharing~~~ oh damn.....holding hands!!!! "
"Why is Ryo with a girl instead of Uchi or NEWS or K8 ?
Even one of them is better than this girl.

*kicks the girl away*

She looks so much other than him ."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These commentscdon't they sound like immature babies that got their toys stolen? They are soo jealous because the model is so much prettier and that they couldn't pose with their idols. That's selfish and immature ways into taking response to a regular photo shoot. I kind of understand if they think, "All of the fans are immature and stupid." Because many fans are behaving like this. They have no respect what so ever to the idol and the model that are doing their job. Some times when I see disrespectful fans like thesecI feel like quitting as a fan. But if I back off and quit, it means that I'm running away and I can't prove to themcI'm one of the good fans out there. And I know good fans are out there but there are too many disrespectful fans, it's likecinstead of being fans, people are becoming rude, obnoxious, annoying, too demanding, and too possessive. I think how they are fans show how much their real personality and selfishness can be.

WellcI thought it was common sense to let idols have girl friends because you just support them and nothing else. Well some fans can go over board, sending letters of hate, saying evil things on Internet out of jealously. Those girls seriouslycacting like they have been cheated on but they don't even know that person. Girls seriously show that they are possessive and that no one can have their idol except themselves. That shows how much they only care for themselves and their own satisfaction. These people doesn't seem to have a boy friend and I think they can't because their boyfriends will be tired of them and the girls are too demanding. That's the big problem idols cause.

great essay ne lena !!!!!!!!! :dancing:
really agree with it !!!!!
i really can't stand those fans who only know how to praise their idols ~
they should look futher and deeper on their performances ..
not only say how kakkoii they looked on stage ~
2 Dec 2005, 11:43 #15226
i don't really think the idols themselves cause this problem... the behaviour you describe in rabid fangirls isn't really that different from crazy/obsessed/unrational people in other "social",or in this case "antisocial" situations, it's just the mass of them making it such a big issue...
of course their behaviour makes for unpleasant and oftentimes dangerous situations, i just don't see this as any different than your neighborhood stalker pinpointing a non-celebrity...
celebrities attract far more attention naturally as they become public figures, but i don't find common sense, decency and respect flying out of the window an uncommon occurrence...
i guess what i'm trying to say is that while i don't agree with this type of behaviour, it doesn't really surprise me... it's upsetting to rational fans, because it causes harm to the people they admire... but crazy people are everywhere these days and like it or not, we have to live among those crazies too...
i certainly wish it were possible for members of JE to have more normalcy in their private lives, i'm not sure any young kid really understands just what they sign on for when they join this outfit...
i've long had a distaste for the oppressive rules they have to follow... but obviously, quite a few of those rules directly affect their safety, more's the pity...
i completely understand your feelings of upset on this matter, but for every scary fangirl that matures into a more rational being, rest assured, a new flock of delusionals will arise...
that whole mob concept *shudder*... people just don't seem to act normal in large packs...
i am of the older fangirl department that you mentioned and so i think i've earned my calm... sort of... over the years... :hehe:
but i won't necessarily go head to head with the crazies, that would be like... :banghead:
just let them rant and rave and let the police take care of the really scary ones...
as horrific as it is, being a celebrity comes with many perks and sadly, many downsides...
for my part, i plan to enjoy their talents and wish for their success and happiness for a long time to come...
2 Dec 2005, 12:00 #15227
good essay there....I go to other forums where there are rabid fans around (but I don't post) and when the picture of Jin and Takako came out, it was scary....It came to a point where I suspect they are not thinking for Jin but more for themselves so they can continue to think that one day they'll marry Jin or whatever.....it's plain selfishness and self-delusion......
I think I'm a fangirl too and I don't think fangirls are deragatory terms..for me I don't entertain thoughts of meeting them one day maybe because they're so far from me...my meaning of "fangirl" is someone who buys their merchandise and magazines and supports them regardless of whatever they do....I won't deny I start liking them because of their looks, but there are more to them than just their pretty faces....the more clips I saw of them, the more I like them for their talents.....
anyway this is just my opinion....I think Jdrama's KAT-TUN thread has some of the most sensible fans around....albeit for the occasional crazy fangirl.....and yoroshiku ne ironicwave...post often and enjoy your stay here :woot:
2 Dec 2005, 12:18 #15228
yah, I shouldn't have used fangirls cause I'm one of them..I should say obsessed girls. I love both of your opinons and I totally agree. I call you guys true fangirls. Jdorama fans, they have good fans like Ivy<3333

I respect people's opinons but some opinons, I can't agree. I think that goes with some...and like me knowing Japanese and reading japanese fans writing the same insulting comments over and over again..I'm like wait a min...you guys are just being selfish and bashing to a point that any one could be totally offended. So when I read this long opinon from this other forum, I didn't quite agree because....that's like acting rude towards my opinon and telling me I was immature for writing like this and that they were joking for those comments...I was shocked because..who would love to get insulted even it is a joke? I wouldn't want someone calling me ugly and that's a joke..too overboard...

and welcome ironicwave!!! hope you enjoy your stay her and you're a great fan!!!
2 Dec 2005, 12:54 #15229
thank you both for the nice welcome... this seems like a really cool community... i've only checked out info on dramas here for a long while, but with nice folks like you around, i think i'll really like visiting and participating often... :jumpie: <<< totally enjoying your emoticons too... :hehe:

on that fangirl thing... i know that a lot of those icky sentiments are real, but i wonder if quite a few of those people posting those things aren't just playing a role... i can't really imagine so many people entirely losing touch with reality like that...
i could see some of them acting out this role of "jilted lover/gf/whatever" in the communities they post in, but when it came down to actually doing something "real" about it, i'm sure most of them could draw the line...
the net for many people is still a place to act out things the settings of regular life would frown upon, maybe a place to be someone or something you aren't in your normal day to day life...
and i also assume that celebrities learn to see things in perspective... even though it would probably leave greater and maybe threatening impressions on younger ones like the members of kat-tun...
being young is supposed to be about freedom, i imagine that makes their lifestyle pretty difficult at times to say the least...
showbusiness is a tough world, but i'm sure they'll make it through alright as long as they have the support of friends, family and well, the more moderate fans... :patpat:
and now that all that sensible stuff is outta the way... :hehe:

i'll continue to drool over the babes... :mwahaha:
2 Dec 2005, 13:01 #15230
hiya ironicwave...I see u're making every opportunity to use the emoticons...... :mwahaha: is one of my fave though I seldom have the chance to use it...hehe.....
I'm sure the KAT-TUN guys have their own life....I heard my japanese friend say they're often seen in Harajuku or Shibuya with their gfs.... as for the all those extreme fangirls....yeah maybe it's just part of their effort to fit in...after all when everyone is acting like this, it's easier to pretend u're jealous or whatsoever..even if u're nothing like this in real life....ok.....I think we're being too sensible...back to everyday craziness in the KAT-TUN thread :beaten:

I'm sorry if I bother all of you, but I have something to ask.
If you want you can ignore me, I won't mind.
Is Jin's mother just 14 years older than him? I heard that from my friends. But i doubt it, and i heard Jin is preparing to go to University. Is it right?
Someone here can answer my questions ? :puppydog:
