It seems to come and go: some posts get uploaded right away, others just creep and crawl. :grumble:

If I had an axe, my PC would be in pieces about now.

I thought I was the only one. There was one point I couldn't even log in.

Yeah, it only happened for a bit. Seems to be working fine right now.

Following up from my previous post....

As 86 said, the site seems to be working fine right now.
Hopefully it stays that way. :)

Unfortunately no. :grumble:

Site's been sluggish and submitting posts have been close to impossible.

Grrrr.

I've been able to submit posts without a problem however it seems to take a bit longer than usual.

I could easily say that it's my dialup, but I also have this problem when I'm at work... And I've tried it on several PCs at work as well...

Also, I don't have this problem on other forums or sites that I visit...

Broken record time: this site is still sluggish... And getting very frustrating to use... :grumble:
5 Jul 2005, 13:38 #189
I have noticed that when it comes time to post, it takes a while. Maybe it's just me. :grumble:

I've been having the same problem for a week now: you submit the post and it just crawls...

I'm at work now, and I'm having the same problems... Particularly with certain threads...

Is anyone looking into this continual problem....?? :grumble:

Server load is 2 to 3+ now, which is slightly high. (ideally it should be below 1)

One way to speed up the site, is to remove the search function, as every single post made will make changes to database tables that are a few million records long (the search keywords). Doesn't seem too feasible?

My idea of dynamic archiving doesn't seem to be realisable soon though..

Is that due to lots of users?

Though most people apparently aren't using the search function, the mods need it to weed out duplicate threads and the like.

If you removed the search function, would the Google search still be functional and not slow things up?

Could be. I'm not sure if its becoz of JDorama's users, ruroshin may have other stuff running here. But we are the main user of this server. Take a rough look at the number of users online to have an idea of the traffic flow..

The Google search would be functional, but not as effective and updated. I was thinking, one way would be to limit the update to the search database to be performed once a day instead of after every post. Of course, these are my hypothesis that it'll actually speed things up... coz in actual fact, we don't really have that many posts per minute to slow things down.. right?

There are a few other websites on the server but all of them put together probably doesn't approach 10% of jdorama.com.

I just saw the load briefly shot up to 10 today and mysql and apache was at the top. I've change the mysql settings to log slow queries so I'll check back later tomorrow to see if there's anything there.

On the contrary: I think we get a lot of posts per minute... And in fact, pretty recently....

EDIT:

Here's something I noticed: the speed seems to be okay until I submit that one post on that one thread which takes a long long long time to upload... Then after that, the entire site seems to crawl for a good 5-15 minutes... Very frustrating.

I've also just tweaked apache settings a bit more and I turned keepalive off and for processes to die and restart after a while to get rid of any memory leaks, loading time might be a touch slower with this setting but the server should be more stable.

Btw on average looking at the stats now, jdorama.com processes 15-20 requests a second. d-addicts.com does about 30.
