Not sure how long KSCI's been airing the show... I remember watching it sporadically in 2004 because it didn't have any subs then all of a sudden subtitles appeared (late 2004, maybe?)... I started recording the episodes in June of last year... And I've only missed one recording since (power went out, if I recall). :)
Oh, I didn't know KSCI first aired the show without subs. Do you or anyone else who watches Dotch know the span of years covered in these subbed shows? As you point out, based on the different formats, they do seem to skip around chronologically. I'm sure KSCI has a website. Maybe they can answer the questions that Dotch followers probably have like: 1) will they continue to air Dotch? 2) do they have the rights to sub and air all the Dotch episodes? 3) do they plan on replacing Dotch with the new travel show?

My guess would be from 2001 to the present: they aired an episode with Yonekura Ryoko which I suspect is from 2001, judging from her 'do, and I think the "New Dotch" format is a 2006 entity...
Everybody's going with the fish, but those 2 comedians always end up losing somehow, so I'm going with the bagel, seems like more variety on that side.
While trying to find out more info about Dotch Cooking Show, I came across this on Wikipedia. Sumitani is the reporter who does the special segments for Sekiguchi.
S?suke Sumitani (’Y’J@—C Sumitani S?suke, January 14, 1980 in Tokyo) is a Japanese announcer for Nippon Television. He was known for his good looks and was the sports announcer on various shows, slowly becoming a household name. Sumitani graduated from the Department of Economics at Keio University.
On May 18, 2006, Sumitani was charged with illegal photography of a minor after videotaping under a high school girl's skirt while riding up an escalator at JR Yokohama Station. The incident happened on February 20, after a railroad policeman on patrol saw him taping under the girl's skirt. Sumitani quickly confessed saying, "I was turned on and followed my temptations. I sincerely apologize."

Oh man.
Maybe he's the guy in that pic that Triky posted in the GD thread. :beaten:
Well, I e-mailed KSCI inquiring about their future plans re: Dotch now that it has gone off the air in Japan. KSCI referred me to UTB which, as far as I can tell, is responsible for packaging Japanese programs for KSCI. UTB's reply:
UTB is considering its programming options and we do not have a
definitive
answer to your question at this time.
Sorry I couldn't get any real info. I asked some specific questions like whether they have the rights to air all of the Dotch episodes, but those went unanswered.

Yow, they were pretty inconclusive in their answer... Talk about a canned response. :bleh:
