Got a question. I've got some doramas on VCD...

To save space, I want to change them over to DVD...

How do I do this?

Thanks,
PCM

Hahahaha well we don't all acrtually pay for tmpgenc :hehe: :hehe:

If you want, I might be able to hook you up with a *cough* serial *cough*

Anyways, VCD to DVD isn't too bad. Rip it with isobuster then you can author directly with tmpgenc dvd author w/o any extra re-encode unless your VCD source is really messed up and isnt compliant

Hmm, I don't even it rip it: I just use the "Import DVD Files" feature in TMPGEnc DVD Author, the author the disc. :)

hahaha i see, but if you're going to combine a bunch of vcds you'll have to save some on the HD though

Hrm...

I foresee that I'll likely be building a new PC in the next few months... with a faster CPU and plenty of RAM and HDD, in order to support my dorama conversions.

Hahah yea, you definately want a good comp to do video encoding. It's really cpu intensive! :D

Been thinkin' of getting a socket 939 AMD 64 @ 3500+ rating, 1 GB of PC4000 low latency RAM, nForce 4 motherboard, not sure what HDD model yet. Can overclock the 3500+ to 3800+ easy or even 4000+.

That should be enough horsepower.

Wow that's some heavy stuff right there :hehe: :hehe:

Personally I like Intel Chips better than AMD and I'm not too convinced that 64bit processing will be fully utlized on win xp but I'm looking to upgrade my comp to a 3.4 or higher Prescott. As for HD's, go with a Seagate SATA drive. Or if you really want heavy duty, the Seagate Cheetahs are tops on the market. Very pricy though!

Yeah... not sure whether to go with Seagate's new 7200.8 series or a Western Digital 74 GB 10K RPM Raptor.

I'd go with the AMD64 Socket 939 3200+ o 3500+ over the Intel offerings for reasons of heat, price, overclockability, and upgrade path.

The present P4 line is topped out, run too hot, are slightly too expensive depsite recent price cuts, and have no upgrade path planned.

Really, the engineers running Intel's notebook CPU line should take over their desktop CPU line. The notebook CPU's are top notch.

The Cheetahs have superior speed at 15k RPM and with the SCSI interface but Raptors aren't too shabby either :hehe:

Yea the Prescott isn't doing too hot but I get my computer parts cheap so price isn't too big a deal for me. I'm waiting for Microsoft to go 64 bits with their OS because that's when Intel will probably be going 64 also with their Pentiums. At least according to some of the sale associates that I talked to. As for overclocking, I don't normall play around with that since I just use the standard fan given to me by Intel but I heard the Northwood, I'm using 3ghz can overclock to 4ghz easily and the 3.2 can get into 4.2 w/o problems. Prescott I'm not sure since it uses a completely different socket. But hey, no pins! That's awesome, lol.

Doh, you're right. Ripping to the HD is a necessity. :)

Man, you guys sure are obsessed with specs... :hehe:

Is buying a 64-bit CPU worth it, since none of the existing OSes support it?

1GB is a good call, but PC4000 DDR is pretty pricey. Not sure what the prices on the SATA drives right now, but I'd think the ATA100/133 drives are dirt cheap and huge (>200GB) with Hitachi planning to release 300GB drives soon.

Overclocking? Ehhh... At those speeds, your rate of return is pretty neglible, I think.

I'm surprised no one has brought up water cooling yet. I was sure it was the next time since you guys are looking a overclocking.

First of, I'm glad you were able to get through reading my post. It looked fine when I typed (and previewed) it. :beaten:

So...I take it your computer doesn't sound like a jet plane taking off? :hehe:

No problem. I shoulda been a pharmacist. :beaten: :hehe:

Nope. It would counteract the whole point of having speakers.

I don't have neon glowtubes, either... This isn't "pimp my ride..." :hehe: :hehe:

Funny you mention this. I subscribe to Maximum PC. They have a kind of "Look at Me Pimp My Rig" segment. This month's entry? A Mystery Machine.. :hehe:

Thank goodness I've gotten past that kinda stuff.

I'll just stick to the Ryoko fanboy routine. :beaten: :nut: :bonk:

I personally really don't think 64 bit processing is worth it. Right now I feel its more gimmick than performance since it's limited by the OS. Win XP has patches that will allow for 64 bit but Win XP was never designed to support it so in essence it will never come close to fully utilizing the 64 bit capabilities.

@dochira: water cooling sounds cool but what if it leaks? :hehe: :hehe:
