I think I have already explained the cons of Nero Vision Express before. :headscratch: Anyway, here are the things that I don't like about NVE:

*It doesn't fix overscans
*You can't add subtitles to your video so you can only use hardsubbed videos. If you have a video which uses soft subs then you will have to hardsub it first before using this encoder, which isn't a good idea
*The encoding is somewhat slower compared to other encoders like tmpgenc

sorry for asking again and thank you for answering again :victory:
I've played around with Convertx, DVDLab, and TMPGenc.
I found encoding to mpegs a hassle and I didn't like the menus in convertx.
so I think I should just stick with Nero.. there might be some quality loss but as long as its watchable I think I'll be fine, and so far no major technical problem for me.. thanks again guys

okay I gave TMPGenc and DVDLab another try and it's wow.
There really is a big difference in quality.

Try guessing which one was made with Nero Vision (right click and view the image alone if you don't see the difference)?

I have some problems about subtitles getting cut out, but I'm thinking turning it to to Wide screen instead of Full screen would solve the problem.

--edit
does anyone else have that problem or knows how to fix it?

I'm confused: you mentioned TMPGEnc and DVDLab, yet you posted DVDLab and Nero Vision screencaps... :headscratch:

I don't see that much of a difference aside from the different aspect ratios and the truncated subtitles...

You must be changing the aspect ratio of the original somehow... And cropping the image in the process.

I encoded it with TMPGenc and authored it with DVDlab. I was comparing NeroVision to a DVD made with TMPGenc and DVDLab (cause I've been using NVE and people kept saying it was a bad encoder, and now I believe it:mrgreen: ).

If you look at the file by itself.. there really is a difference with NVE encoded DVDs and TMPGenc encoded DVDs might not be that big of a difference but enough to be noticed. NVE looks much worse. :bonk:

I still don't know the cause of the subtitle problem, but I think I know how to fix it, I'll give it a try later..

I think you need to adjust your aspect ratio settings in TMPGEnc...

I left alone the 1:1 aspect ratio.. and then just earlier i tried it 16:9 525 Line(NTSC).. There wasn't any difference in the video, and the subtitle still.. sadly.. gets cut off. I even tried changing the left to right margin on DVDLab and there was still NO difference.. :grumble:

--edit
I think I've figured out the problem.. and it is the ratio. I will re-encode it overnight. Thank you! (hopefully it works.)

I quit. I've just decided to hardsub all my videos. :grumble:

You're still going to have to encode the video using TMPGEnc, ne?

I decided to try hardsubbing using TMPGEnc with Tokyo Zombie: The subs turned out great, but the sound was out of sync :( I think i'll uninstall and reinstall DVDLabPro2.

Out of sync???

What format was your original source? AVI? WMV?
4 Jan 2007, 07:43 #912
It was an avi file, with soft subs.

So you used VirtualDub to merge in the softsubs, ne?

Then you encode from AVI to MPEG with TMPGEnc, ne?

If that's true, I don't know why your stuff is out of sync... I've never had that problem. :headscratch:
4 Jan 2007, 08:44 #914
Oops, yes, used VirtualDub to do the hardsub. It was the resulting .avi that had the sound out of sync.

Which subtitle filter are you using?

I'm using the TextSub Filter that's part of VOBSub and I've never had a sync problem... *knocks on wood*
4 Jan 2007, 14:39 #916
luckily, that has never happen to me with VirtualDub
do you change anything else aside from adding the filter and changing the compression?
4 Jan 2007, 23:02 #917
BOGCHI wrote:changing the compression?

Oh yeah, what compression are you using, A-D?

I'm using the xVid compression, with the single pass, maximum quality (1) setting...

Looks to be the same as me.

I'm gonna persist with DVDLabPro2, when it works the results are great :)

Is everything in sync after you've done the initial hardsub using VirstualDub?
5 Jan 2007, 05:56 #920
No, that's where the problem starts.

I tried registering on the DVDLabPro2 forums to ask them what i've done wrong, but their forum registration process is screwed up :(
