You could try Anime Dad's suggestion as a last resort for this conversion.

She's an acquaintance on my space in France. I'm going to suggest to her to buy a DVD player that accepts both formats.

Yeah, that is the most reasonable thing to do at this point.

Another program that will convert various format video files to DVD of either NTSC or PAL (Including .vobs) with the option of adding a subtitle: DVD Santa. http://www.dvdsanta.com/

I've used DVDSanta for a few years. It worked great in a pal to ntsc conversion. But it could not handle the other direction. The output sound was out of sync from the get go. Finally after about 4 minutes of playing it froze up.

Ah. Well, that's no good then :( It was worth a try though.

I would think that DVD Santa would also convert the audio (different framerates means needing different playback speed), but then again, I have not had to convert anything to PAL.

I think Ralph's best bet is to convert the original file (.avi) to .vob in PAL format using something like WinAvi.

don't forget I'm starting with regular .vob files in ts_video. I may try converting to .avi and then back to .vob but fear the loss of quality.

Anybody know how to make a softsub movie into hardsub movie? Recently I just bought iPod Video and I want to insert some movie that is softsub

Read back through this thread. Ralph-san has been doing just that. Lots of good info on programs etc in there :)

You could also try the videohelp.com forums.

.VOB files are MPEG2, so why convert to .AVI then back to MPEG2?

Might as well convert the MPEG2 to MPEG2 to eliminate one extra level of quality degradation.

Do you mean insert a movie that is hardsubbed? :headscratch:

If you want to hardsub an AVI movie, you need to use VirtualDub and VobSub to merge the softsub file into the video.

Nothing seems capable of converting MPEG2 to PAL from NTSC.
So I'm thinking that in AVI format it may be easier for some software to convert to PAL.

Just wondering, why does a lot of people hate Nero Vision?
I've used it a lot and it's pretty good. Quality is great.. and encoding and burning takes a while but thats alright..
I've pretty much searched all over videohelp and they just kept saying it has a lot of bugs, which I don't get.. because it's been great with me.
Can anyone EXPLAIN the big difference between Nero Vision, and DVDLabPro, TMPGenc DVD Author, and ConvertXtoDVD..?

I think I have already explained the cons of Nero Vision Express before. :headscratch: Anyway, here are the things that I don't like about NVE:

*It doesn't fix overscans
*You can't add subtitles to your video so you can only use hardsubbed videos. If you have a video which uses soft subs then you will have to hardsub it first before using this encoder, which isn't a good idea
*The encoding is somewhat slower compared to other encoders like tmpgenc

I agree with you on those points Saito-kun. A combination of different programs to encode the videos would be my preference, although it is a bit tedious at times. I used NVE before, but the features were so limited.

Yeah, if you want the output to be, well, nearly perfect then you will have to use different softwares and go through a long process. Yes, a bit tedious, but the effort is worth it. One click solutions is never a good thing in my opinion.

Yup, cookie cutter programs always constrain you in one way or another... They seem cool at the beginning, but once you become more advanced, you see the program's limitations...

Serious video editing and DVD creation is not for the faint of heart ;)

I'm having trouble with DVD Lab Pro 2 - it's not doing what it's supposed to :(

There's the flip side: too many user controls... TMPGEnc is like that.
