Howdy,
Was thinking the other day that there must be some doramas that had some scenes filmed in ski resorts in Japan.

What are some of the ski resorts you've seen in Japan in doramas, or real life?

I can recall Matsu Takako and Kimura Takuya visiting Nagano in Love Generation. She said the Olympics were coming.

In OverTime, they began the dorama up at a resort in Hokkaido.

darn i thought u meant something in general =T shouldnt this be in the drama discussion then?

in shota no sushi, theres a part where his gf was running in a snow holding a flag, idk what it says, but she keeps saying 'ganbare'

Well, I suppose it could be in the Discussion on Doramas.

But since folks can also talk about ski resorts they've visited, this topic would fit here too. :)

i suck at snowboarding, but i really wanted to keep practicing. i took a trip up to tohoku (in northern japan) and stayed at a ski resort called 'appi'(?). it was pretty cool. being from hawaii, i never stayed at a ski resort and it was only my 4th or 5th time seeing snow. it was cold as heck, but i had so much fun.
the japanese really know how to treat you when you stay at a place. i have never seen a place that was dirty/filthy, and their customer svc is always exceptional.
since there were no convenience stores around - and we were craving some snacks and drinks - one of the employees used his own car to drive us about five miles down the road (in snow, at night) for us to get some snacks and drinks.

That's so cool... were the signs on the mountain for the trails in Japanese and English, or just Japanese?

Did the hotel staff speak English?

I know I know, my nihongo needs work. :bonk:

Speaking of snowboarding, I just broke my arm/wrist because of that. I went snowboarding last year, a week before xmas. It was fun though. But it was just that damn fake snow and slippery ice.

Oh, the place was Mt. High, one of snowboarding/ski places you can go here in Southern California. It's not really worthy of being called a resort, IMO. They don't have cabin or hotel or place that you can stay over there, just the place to play. But they're the closest one from where I live, so what can I say he he.

And right now, I'm on this stupid cast until the end of this month. Aarghh, I can't wait 'till they take out this annoying cast.

Dude, immediately go and buy the Burton Impact wristguards or the Burton Impact Glove, which have built-in wristguards. They will save your wrists.

The pros wear body armor (NFL, MLB, NHL, etc.), so take a lesson from them.

Mammoth is probably the best place in Southern California.

I know I know, my nihongo needs work. :bonk:

if YOUR nihongo needs work, MY nihongo is still looking in the classifieds.

the signs were mostly in jp and the hotel staff spoke very limited english, but i was with my japanese friends, so *whew*

i had a real blast. at night, i would go outside of the cabins and run around in the snow like some demented clown. :dancing: :dancing:

Oh well, looks like I'd need to hire a guide in Japan that can speak English and ski/snowboard. :bonk:

Or learn to read Japanese again!

yeah, that was one problem. i really wanted to take some lessons since i heard that it would be extremely helpful. unfortunately, none of the instructors could speak english (very well), so i ended up learning how many different ways i could wipe out. :beaten:

I have skied for one week, and I have done snowboard for one day. I came back yesterday.
Snowboarding is really hard.
Of course you can ski in France, no need to go to Japan or elsewhere :)

I'll show you some photos :)
23 Jan 2005, 16:32 #13
cool, didn't know there was skiing in france. from what i've heard, skiiing is easy to learn, but difficult to master. snowboarding is supposedly the opposite - hard to learn, but easier to master.

Xav: looking forward to some snowy french pics, man!

In France you can Ski in hundreds of places, but the best are in the Alpes.
Maybe you have already heard of Chamonix, Albertville and grenoble ( which hosted the olympic winter games in 1968 and 1992), Courchevel, Val-d'Isere, Mont Blanc (4808m high), Aiguille du Midi.

You can search on google and find many pics of this places.

Here is the map of one of the biggest place.

My friends are going to upload some photos from last week. I'm waiting...

Xav: wow! that is one large ski resort. not too knowledgeable about france, but it sounds like you guys have a lot of places. unfortunately, i've never heard of any of them. will look forward to seeing the pics!

pc: nah, in japan, you can snowboard almost anywhere. i heard in certain spots in tokyo, there are INDOOR ski/snowboard places!

I love snowboarding! :woot: It's my favourite winter sport!

I'm happy that i don't have to travel far to ski here in Finland. Only a five our drive and i'm at Finlands most known ski resort, Ruka. :dancing:

I don't know if anyone's interested but here's a link to the english site:
http://www.ruka.fi/english/

And if someone is coming to Ruka, tell me and i'll come and meet you there  Awww! I just made sure none of you will go there

Hmm... I could teach you for free :hehe:

I've already teached two of my friends how to snowboard and i still haven't met anyone who wants to do it but still can't learn it so i'm confident that you would learn too... :victory:

It takes more than one lesson and more than one day.

Really, the best way to learn is to spend sets of two days in a row, and also invest in a pair of good kneepads and hip pads and wrist guards, because you'll be falling so much.

Most folks can't handle more than 2 days in a row before being exhausted and beat. :beaten: But you learn a lot faster by doing two consecutive days.

Do like 2 days on... the 2-3 weeks off... then 2 days on... then 2-3 weeks off... and 2 days on. By the end of the 6th day, you'll be cruising. :woot:
