it's BEER, then food, getting around town (to find more beer) and then omiyage...a true lush....i salute you. :drink: someone after my own heart...or an enemy...someone after MY beer. :)

it's cool..there's maybe enough to go around.

yeah, beer being the most important :hehe:, but i would have to include some quality Japanese foods....
there are the beer gardens available, what are they ....3000 yen all you can eat and drink up a rooftop building in Tokyo, sounds like worth a visit eh?

are u friekin' kidding? that's hilairous....it's not normal i don't think....shiet....if i had any beer in my suitcase i would have taken it to the head at the airport since you can walk around and drink in the airport while in japan like it ain't no thing.

What do you do about accomadation? I'm trying to figure out whether to pre-book flight and hotel together in a packaged holiday or just get the plane tickets and turn up like a wondering nomad and hopefully save some cash.

Quite honestly I'm friggin cluesless about how to do Japan.

i fly from my local airport which is leeds-bradford. the airline i use is klm because they go from leed-bradford. the last time i went to japan was in may and it cost 500 pounds.

next year i'm going to tokyo with friends and we're going from leeds-bradford again. flight cost will be about 570 pounds.

i could probably get a cheaper flight but that will mean flying from another airport and if that's london then any saving will be negated.

the website for accommodation is asiarooms.com if sharing a room you could probably do it for maybe 30 to 40 quid a night.

personally i'd book the hotel before i arrive because i don't like risks like that. plus, you'll be tired so the last thing you want to start doing is looking for a room.

buses and trains are very good and quite cheap. taxis expensive!

at osaka airport (kix) there is a limousine bus service(coach) that will drop you off near to where you want to go. i'm sure there's something similar at tokyo(narita). this is much cheaper than a taxi.

a friend of mine stayed at hostels when he went but this is not for me.

i hope this helps

well ebisu is made by sapporo but they stopped exporting it to the united states some time ago...but then i asked why...and found out they relabeled it "sapporo reserve"...that's supposed be the same as ebisu according to the sapporo usa employee that responded to my e-mail.

Thanks for the help.

Do you have any recommendations for hotels from asiarooms.com and have you used them before? Ideally I'm looking for a room for 3 with a safe and a fridge. I want a fridge because we want to buy our own food and prepare meals ourselves to save cash rather than eat out every day and night.

Anyone know how the safe thing works? Do you get 1 safe for each of you or are you expected to share? If so I can imagine fights breaking out to be apointed key holder. I'm not sure I'd trust my pals or me for that matter with the safe key without losing it.

Does anyone know where you stand with health insurance if you book the plane and hotel yourself? I was thinking of going for a packaged deal with expedia coz I think they provide you with a health insurance package as standard.

I'm also looking into the possibility of renting a house or apartment instead of a hotel but I'm not sure how practical that is.

Sorry for the flood of questions but I'm a natural worrier and I like to have every situation prepared for in advance.

i <3 food. :metaldevil:

burakumin or no, everyone participate in food, especially gyoza and wontons, cause everyone can sit around wrap them, chat, drink beer, and when you're done, everyone eats together... then.. burakumin no longer.

with all due respect you can find meals that are a steal, or relatively inexpensive, without having to resort to preparing your own meals? if you resort to that level of thriftiness you wil regret your trip....you can eat well on a budget if you know where to go...moreover, where the f*ck are you prepare that food...in your hotel room? if you plan to buy prepared food for your entire trip to japan you will regret it, i'm tellilng you...
