qilver wrote:yeah, that's right, on western ave in the torrance area, right? that is a nice one, two story and has a lot of japanese goods there.
also got a "Hawaiian Bread" factory there right near the hwy ramp.

yeah, a marukai market, that opened up a year or so ago, also got a "Kinokuniya" book store across the street that i go to almost weekly. All in costa mesa. The marukai mkt is only one story and a lot smaller than the other one.

Heh, you got 'em mixed up, bud: the Mitsuwa Marketplace is on Western aVe. in Torrance and has an Asahiya bookstore... On Artesia Blvd. in Gardena off the 91 fwy is the Marukai Market and it has two stories and all kinds of Japanese goods... The Western Ave. offramp for the 405 takes you to the King's Hawaiian main bakery....

check out Daikokuya if you want to try some good ramen at Japantown, also Shinsengumi is great too, think they have one in Torrance as well. :applaud:

Hmm, I'll have to look for those and try 'em out. :)

my bad, my bad, i am not from that area, from OC, i got there about maybe a few times a year, just forgot. But that place is good to visit, got tons of Japanese goods.
Got a bookstore too eh? Lotsa Ryoko stuff you found?
they had a good bookstore in Japantown, but they shut it down, that's too bad, it wasn't a big store though. Nothing beats a trip to Japan to do a big time search on J-idol/Anime stuff, gosh i would love a trip there!! :fingerscrossed:

yeah Daikokuya, full bowl of Ramen, about $7.50, but so very worth it, for some reason, might want to call them, if you are going on a sunday, not sure if they are open on Sundays anymore, they might though. Other than that, best ramen so far outside of Japan, well that is my opinion, second best is Shinsengumi, there ramen is worth the wait.

Not lots, but some.

BTW, I did see several magazines with Nana-chan on the cover... At least I think I did... You're more the expert than me... My radar is locked on Ryoko-chan.

That was probably Asahiya that they shut down. Now the only one is in Torrance...

Asahiya? i don't think i have been there before, where's it at? is it bigger than the one that got shut down in Japantown? must have lots of good stuff there, think kinokuniya is bigger though.
hmm....saw some Nana on the cover of some magazine covers, will have to check them out sometime, now if i can bring myself to actually buying it, a beauty mag, not sure if i can or not.
another kind of mag of her, probably.
yeah, ya got your radar on the Ryoko, and there is plenty out there on her, she is quite popular. Got mine on Nana. :smitten:

Not sure if the one in Little Tokyo was bigger or not, but I think Kinokuniya is bigger... The Kinokuniya also has stationery and stuff, whereas the Asahiya only has books and magazines.

where is the Asahiya bookstore located, got the address, should pay a visit sometime, got a lot more free time thesedays to go. Is it worth the drive from OC, lotsa of j-idol mag/anime stuff there?

yeah, gotta bring myself the courage to get the magazine of my fave j-idol, i would say it could be worth it, but the regular priced stuff is $$$.
Photobooks, now those are harder to find esp. with your favorite j-idol, they are $35 and up.

The Asahiya bookstore is inside the Mitsuwa Marketplace... :)

Not sure about the J-idol/Anime stuff... They have some, I'm sure, but I don't know what you would conder to be a lot... There's a small J-pop section with CDs, magazines, books, and videos...

Yeah, they are pretty pricey... I did luck out on some of the Ryoko photobooks: someone from Japan was selling them on eBay and I jumped on 'em... The shipping from Japan was sorta steep, but I had to have 'em... :beaten:  :bonk:

ok, there is a mitsuwa in costa mesa, they have ....i think that is the bookstore inside, probably the same type....
how big is the one in your area?
I think Kinokuniya is better, cause the one that i go to, i usually find most of the items at kinokuniya, and less at the other place.
gosh, as i remember in tokyo, it was heaven there, the six/seven story kinokuniya, a whole section on photobooks alone. ones that you will not find here, probably. sure wish i can go back there and visit.. :argh:
how much for the photobooks on ryoko? spent $55 on kyoko fukada when i was really into her....the shipping must be steep eh? how much?

Reasonably big, I guess... It used to be a Yaohan.

It's got the market, the bookstore, video/rental store, a food court, etc. and it's usually bustling with activity. Not to mention the cute checker at the market. :hehe:

Mind you, I bought the books "used" so they were a little less expensive, but two of 'em cost me $40 each and the other one I found at Yesasia...

From what I've seen, the shipping from Japan is around $10 and up depending on the size of the package...

sounds like i got to pay a visit that marketplace sometime....will be a bit of a drive, but i am curious to see how it is like, not sure if i have been to that one.

yeah, the kinokuniya in Shibuya, think it is in shibuya district, huge, bottom floor had mostly manga books and stuff, another floor had gajin/english mag's and books, another magazines, another floor computer magazines/books, and not sure, fourth or five floor must've had the good stuff, magazines, photobooks, etc....can't fully recall,
I could spend all day at that place.
Also they have these underground food markets in tokyo to die for, food galore, best japanese food, for a decent price, (what is considered a cheap in japan?, almost nothing.. ) but we are talking Eel over rice, Unagi for $5-6 bucks, sushi galore, ok ok, ths is an artiste thread, i will stop drooling over the thought of that food market in tokyo.
