Hehe. Well since the Olympics are going to be held in your country even though you are on the other side of Canada, I'm sure there will be much fanfare throughout all the major cities and towns.

I read that a lot of people are PO'd that even those who live on the West Coast in the same timezone as Vancouver will still be getting the opening ceremonies time delayed as opposed to live.

Hmm, good point... I'll have to check the local TV schedules.

EDIT: Ack, you're right... It'll be live back east, but delayed on the west coast... That is SO wrong. :grumble:

We are talking about NBC here... and we know that they make excellent programming decisions. :victory:

Fine then NBC. I'll stick to USA to watch curling live... yes live!

Ouch, this is horrible news. Not a good way to start the Olympics.

From Vancouver Sun

CBC is reporting that Georgian luge competitor Nodar Kumaritashvili has died after launching from the track and hitting his head on a metal pole during a training run Friday at Whistler Olympic Park.

The track is closed. Coaches of the national teams are in meetings with FIL, the international luge federation. The training run has been cancelled.

Kumaritashvili was going close to 150 km/h, near the end of the course, when he launched off the track. Witnesses say his body hit a metal pole. Medical personnel performed CPR through a plastic tube and almost immediately an ambulance rushed Kumaritashvili from Whistler Olympic Park to the local hospital.

Kumaritashvili turned 21 in November. He had competed in luge for Georgia since 2008.

Apparently a few other lugers had problems with the track as well. Not good :shakehead:
