I think that's why we like her so much - she seems so accessible - even though it's probably not true at all and we have pretty good evidence to assume that she's not so good at being filmed 'out of character'
So you're saying she's not as down to earth as she appears? Bummer.

Sounds like that to me...

What "pretty good evidence" is he talking about? :headscratch:

Watching more and more of Juri-chan's work, I continue to be impressed with her acting. Like many others, my first exposure to her was from Nodame Cantabile. I've commented many times about how difficult pulling off that role correctly was, and how she hit it perfectly. But Nodame is also a possible career killer; a role like that can be so endearing and remembered that no one will associates her with any other. Instead, she's able to completely disappear within her new roles, making you nearly forget that she ever played Noda Megumi. That's some serious skills. :applaud:

I've mentioned in the past how she could be stereotyped after playing Nodame so convincingly... But then she takes on the role of Ruka in Last Friends and blows away any doubts of her skill and dedication to a role...

Amazing. :applaud:

Well, it seems that many times I've seen Juri outside a Drama role, on camera, she seems to continue performing. I've mentioned before - it's only very rarely I think we see the 'real' Juri captured on tape.

If you remember, I mentioned that in her vacation to England she seemed to be doing a certain amount of performing for her candids throughout the show and it wasn't more than a few times I felt the guard go down.

I just think she's good at being the drama persona on film and isn't so good at being whoever Juri is when she's not on camera.

And you'll have to forgive me if my posts have been less than cogent - I've been out really late spending time with friends down here for the last couple of days, so I'm typing late late at night (I normally get to bed by 10:30.. it's after 2 ;-))

"Isn't so good at being whoever Juri is"

Hmm.

That's a confusing and contradictory: You're saying she isn't good at being herself, yet you don't know what being herself is... :headscratch:

But like you said, it is after 2AM... Get some sleep. :beaten:

Will the real Ueno Juri please stand up?

Well, certainly I don't know what she is really like once the cameras are off, but from what I've seen in specials like her trips to England and Africa, along with many interviews, she seems to be a very nice, friendly person. She can be a little Nodame-ish like during the Bristo SMAP show, and I do wonder if that's her acting, or if she really is like that.

I guess the only way I'll know is if I get to hang out with Juri-chan for a while :victory:

Can't argue with you there. Ruka was a major departure from Nodame, and even though the series sucked and the role was never allowed to fully develop, she really pushed the envelope with her acting. But I'm thinking more of her "smaller" roles, especially in roles like Rainbow Song. You completely forget she was ever Nodame when you watch her act there. Being able to have such a memorable role, then "disappear" in another drama or movie is a testament to her skills in acting. :applaud:

The true can be said for any celebrity, ne?

You either accept the image that they project on talk shows, interviews, etc. or not...

You're right, it can be said for any celebrity really. Well, I have to say I certainly like what I've seen from Juri-chan thus far, especially after looking through some clips of her on Youtube. Goodness she can be so adorable, seems like an absolute joy to be around.

Admittedly biased, I think she's as pure as fallen show. :inlove:

It's probably the hairstyle and clothing... From the magazine article, it's talking about Warau Mikaeru, which was released in 2006, so Juri-chan was 20 at the time... :)

Very feminine Juri.

Black nail gloss .... I don't usually notice Juri with painted nails. Plus, stylish shoes .... a departure from the Juri-norm.

Yeah, she doesn't typically wearing nail polish, so it's something special when she does... (She's wearing pink nail polish on her Featured Artist pic, BTW)... :)

Honestly, I have no idea what the show is. Looks like to be some comedy show; they interview some people and I guess it's some kind of a quiz show too.

I downloaded the video from Stage6 a while back, so I don't know where else it would be online, but I'm in the midst of uploading it to some random hosting site. I'll be sure to give you a link once it finishes :victory:
