If the backlight on the LCD screen is shot, there's not much you can do, I'm afraid... Gomen.

Here's your chance to get a new laptop. ;)

Like bmw said, "your LCD screen is shot". BUT, you can replace it yourself if you know what you're doing. You can always check eBay for your laptop model and see what comes up.

Heh, "if you know what you're doing." ;)

Is repair out of the question? For stuff like this, it might be: the repair cost would likely be more than the value of the laptop...
26 Aug 2005, 14:47 #1116
Yup I totally agree. It might not be worth the cost to fix a broken lcd screen.

i've replaced a few Powerbook LCD's, it shouldn't be too hard, you just need to be careful unplugging the thin cables.

Thing is, would he be able to find another LCD screen to fit.

If one is mechanically and electrically inclined, taking it apart to check things out wouldn't hurt... If the entire laptop is to be replaced, does it matter if you mess things up anymore? ;)

But back everything up first.

Don't all laptops have a VGA port? He could use that as a temporary solution as long as he doesn't need the portability.
26 Aug 2005, 22:21 #1119
that'd work, a LCD would probably be $100 or so, it would a time to seriously consider a new one, they're rather cheap now. Especially when Dell puts out those 30% off coupons.
